Skate shoes running smaller and narrower now?
« on: February 20, 2020, 01:43:45 PM »
Skate shoes running smaller/narrower now? Anyone experiencing this? Myself and a few others are not fitting into the same size shoe we've worn for years, so I thought I'd ask here.

The stitching/shape of the shoe is almost identical on most brands too. The shoes are just more narrow nowadays. This change is fucking annoying and is a headache. What's up with this? Anyone have to move up 1/2 a size recently?

Men's US 10.5 used to be:
UK 10.5
EUR 44.5
CM 29

Now it's Men's US 10.5
UK 9.5
EUR 44.5
CM 28.5

The change makes a big difference. Shit sucks. Anyone else dealing with this?

I've noticed this too and fucking love it. I've got a narrower foot and don't have to go through blistering the shit out of my feet trying to break in a shoe half a size too small anymore

Yea I've noticed this in the last couple of years. It sucks and has burned me with buying shoes online a few times, now I HAVE to go in a store to confirm. Making things worse is I was size 12 but now seem to be 12.5 but lots of skate shoes don't come in this size.

I prefer a narrower shoe. I want a shoe upper that willform to my feet, and the sole also as closely snug with my foot as possible. Coming from the huge puffy shoes era I feel like I have so much more control with new slimmer shoes were the distance between my physical foot and the board is as close as possible. Currently I’m skating chucks. I can see why it would be annoying if you have wide feet though.

You feet can change over time and your arches can collapse too causing you to size up.

Old Skool Vans are definitely narrower now than they were 15 years ago.

I bought some es accel reissues and that is definitely the case. I have narrow feet and they feel snug--almost too tight.

I recently bought a pair (online) of Cons Slip Ons in 10.5 - half a size down on my normal 11’s cause every review I found said they run big. Anyways I can’t even get my foot in them. They are super narrow and my high arches do not fit whatsoever.
Think I’m gonna get another pair in 11.5 now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯

Do you mean the Accel re-issue, or the Accel slim? There a big difference here between both shoes. I'm wearing the Accel slim right now, and it has nothing to do with the original Accel - and I love it! I have an office job and this is a shoe that I dare taking to the office on Fridays.

i went up a shoe size in my 20s so i can't comment on shoes getting narrower over the years. vans are always tts for me, nb half size up but adidas is all over the board in terms of sizing. first noticed it when i bought some adi ease premiere adv in my regular size and they definitely could've done with going a half size up, went to an adidas outlet and spotted some busenitz rx vulcs - tried my regular size and couldn't get my foot in the fuckin things. went up a half size and they were still too tight, went up a full size and they fit albeit pretty damn snug. ordered some random adidas as chillers at a half size up and they fit more like a full size up.

I’ve noticed pants waists are fitting a little snugger than they used to.  The inseam doesn’t seem to have changed at all though.

Dude yes. As someone with wider feet it fucking sucks. The joslins work alright for me, same with the maranas. I recently got the new Adidas superstars and they're a bit wider i love it. The general shape of the shoe works for my feet. Also that Adidas pro model shoe looks like it has a similar shape only mid top

I've definitely noticed this, just bought 2 pairs of accel ogs and God damn they're so comfortable. Took me right back to early 2000s  and how a skate shoes is supposed to feel at least for me. I'm fully embracing the big puffy shoe lifestyle once again.

Lol, chuckled at that one...

Interesting to hear others are noticing it too. I appreciate the devil's advocate comments and fully agree that your feet can get wider as you age but this doesn't change the fact the actual measurements and construction of the shoes have changed.

I was never a sneaker head so my glossary of shoe terms is idiotic but I noticed most shoes do not have that side stitch near the toe cap that is part of the shoe with the lace holes.

Modern:

It seems like all brands are designing most shoes with that modern look and I'm wondering if that's why the shoes are running narrower? Again I don't know shit about shoe design so I'll call it a more flush look without extra stitching and construction, but it seems all shoe brands are designing the shoes like this.

Deff notice it with CONS, Nike's too now. Started noticing it a few years back with slip-on Vans having gotten into them after UltraCush came out and started seeing comments on sizing and shit.

Best guess is yes it's due to the more athleisure stylized trends of the past 5 or so years. And I notice more pointed toe boxes as well. Not so much on vans, but on the athletic brands, Lakai, Vans...

Let's all just skate D3's from now. It'd be funny as shit if everyone did that overnight.

Your foot gets fatter as you age.  Some of this reluctantly accept this.  I've gone up a size and a half since my early 20's.

i have huge wide feet, but really like skating in Janoskis, so basically i have to buy a pair to rock break in, then transfer to skate shoes after.

Vans size 13 always fit perfect right out the box

Now? Agreed, but it goes back fairly far.  It’s hard to get a wide shoe.  I wanted those dunks with the socks and or the Kostns with the socks, but my foot felt like it was being strangled.  But farther back than that too. Maybe the secret to being great is dainty little feet?

gone through like 20 different shoes in the last couple years from nike, adidas, es, nb, vans, dc etc and only the adidas busenits fit small. the gt blazers were slightly too long but its not really an issue. the rest were normal size 13s
