Crazy how much good footage this guy has and still isn't pro.

but in due time he'll get one forsure

also, this just dropped. the Busenitz line he mentions is incredible

An Appreciation thread for Nik would be better, but it don't matter to me. I can always appreciate a Nik Stain thread, regardless.

If I were a glib douchebag, I’d say he’s a “skater’s skater”.

But I’m not, so I won’t.

But he is.

A skater’s skater I mean.

Not a glib douchebag.

That’s what I am.

they're not mob, per se, but he keeps his front leg very straight and flicks way out in front of him, where a gold standard Penny/Reynolds flick pulls that front leg up more and then out at the peak. No hate, I like when people have non-cookie-cutter technique.

agreed, love his skating when its good but I see like no progression in his parts, its kind of the same thing every time. Love him to prove me wrong and release a really good well-rounded part though.

I will take 20ft long back smiths on chunky ledges with immaculate style from now til eternity. He's got a unique thing going and that counts for everything, especially now-a-days when there are literally thousands of skaters i've never heard of who skate at what would've been a "pro" level in decades past

ya ya I get it, there is an in-between though. for every weird gross athletic street league freak there's a lot of good "unique" skaters that do different tricks that get nowhere near the shine Nik stain does. Don't get me wrong his skating is great I just wish he'd do some different tricks, not just like take 4 extra pushes and do another long crook/backsmith.

Itd be different if he had constant coverage
But he does 3 tricks and puts out 3 minutes of footy every 3 years probably in an average

Someone like him should be able to film 2 parts a year

back in 2018 I saw nik stain and some others skating EMB on my lunch break. i waited to see him actually start skating but he just pushed around the bricks scraping his tail. it was really cool. like he was tuning a violin or something

Is “watching Nik tailscrape” the new “watch Gino push”?

This first part reminds my of that bit in Krooked Kronichles where Gonz admonishes the viewer to do tricks "more powerful".

I've seen him skate a few times and for sure there are other people with more tricks and there are other people who do the same tricks "better" but Nik manages to do tricks memorably - which counts for something when a lot of people can't.

Who rly gives a fuck about pro status anymore besides “Instagram skaters,” Braille kids, and dudes like Aaron Cairo.

Also, what even constitutes “pro status” anymore? He is essentially pro right now.

Technically anyone who signs a contract regardless if they’re paid or not is considered a professional athlete. In skating, contracts are usually made for pieces hosted by purveyors such as Thrasher, transworld, berrics, etc. For example, the basketball player LaMelo Ball lost his NCAA basketball eligibility because he played professional basketball in Europe, before trying to play college basketball in the US. NCAA wouldn’t let LaMelo in because he simply signed a contract to play basketball for a Lithuanian league in Europe which automatically turns into pro status, messing up his amateur status and eligibility for college. Lamelo’s family thought he would still be eligible because there wasn’t money involved, but he did sign a contract to play hoops overseas and NCAA can’t let professionals into their league.

Nik stain is clearly already a “pro” and probably oblivious to his own “pro status” because he skates for the enjoyment of it.

One of the best top 5s  I've seen (plus I hadn't seen that Ricky color part, what a treat), good selection from different time periods and styles, and solid insights into what makes these parts work. He has a great appreciation for skating and it shows in his own.
