That Thunder Baseplate Problem...(ATTN: Deluxe Peeps)
« on: February 20, 2020, 08:33:23 PM »
The base plate / wheel clearance issue with Thunders is pretty well known at this point. I remember hearing awhile ago that Thunder was going to "fix" the problem. Does anyone know anything about the status of this? Seems like it would be easy to remedy (just add few mm to forward end of base plate). It would also be nice to (be able to) use a standard shock pad (or riser) with Thunders without having that excessive misalignment of over/underhang. Deluxe usually seems pretty responsive to feedback. I'm surprised this issue has lingered for so long.

If you wax the side of the ledge good, it's a none issue.

Properly designed truck > turbowclown amounts of wax getting on your wheels & non-aligning shock pads.

Also non-issue if you ride, well, any other truck on the market.

You got a whole bunch of techy ledge dudes like Shane O'Neill and Tom Asta riding thunders with no issue.

A carpenter can hammer in a nail with a rock, but that does not mean there isn't a design issue.

Make fun of the original tensor truck but it could at least nose/tail slide without wax. What if you don't like carrying around wax or it's hot as shit and it's just getting sucked into the thirsty ledge? No noseslide for you.

Bones and Thunder risers work, it's a non-issue. Re-drill your existing ones you lazy bastard.
Noticed the Shane boards tend to have the 2 fingers of flat minimum, you can slide on the bevel rather than being all the way up to nuts. That being said O'neill and Asta could probably murder on a fiberflex wearing timberlands.
Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

It’s insane how nobody on the thunder team can do nose or tail slides because of this design flaw. I feel like an idiot for skating these terrible, flawed trucks. Any recommendations for trucks with pieces of metal protruding from them to hang up on would be appreciated.

You guys talking defect and no sliding are morons. Just quit skating.

No, but what the fuck? These things are “flawed” because the guys that switch their trucks every other session on slap can’t do nose slides?

Your argument suggest that adding a bunch of metal is an improvement.
