"I Skate Vert"
« on: March 09, 2020, 08:48:23 AM »
Talking to other people at the park, I run into a lot of "vert" skaters. A lot of these skaters consider tall transition with maybe a few inches of vert to be vert skating.

My question is, am I wrong? I wouldn't consider this to be vert and I'm not enough of a prick to tell them, "hey you aren't actually skating vert dummy" but I was wondering what you guys think constitutes vert skating.

Thanks.

All vert has tranny, but not all tranny has vert.

You're probably correct. Most folks consider "vert" being perpendicular to the ground. Most mini-ramps don't have any.

Weird how all tranny became vert. I thought that was dying out now. And now we have 'park' and 'vert.'

Vert really is U pipe, at least 9' transitions with at least 1' of real vert, probably Masonite or metal, and you are probably wearing knee pads and a helmet.

How old are these guys, I remember checking the "deep end" of the park half pipe and it's vert for about 6 inches so you could skate vert, but only if you were right on the end.
I'd say the foot of vert counts, anything less doesn't feel like "VERT".
Hey, hey, hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

When I say “vert” or “vert skater” I’m usually referring to halfpipes or combi sized bowls and the people who skate them. If you’re not knee sliding out of stuff you might not be a real vert skater. (Sidebar: a “not real vert skater” can be better than a lot of vert skaters - and some of those padless guys started as vert groms)

I know a lot of older bowl trolls who make a big deal about their spots having “vert”. Vert good. No vert, bad. I feel like this is mainly because it keeps kids away and lends a sense of accomplishment to slash grinds and early grab frontside airs.

right? A younger homie says to me. Dayem your a good very skater. I'm thinking we was just skating a 4' deep bowl.
 I just say thanks bud.

In reality I can't fucking knee slide ever. We had 3 very ramps in the area over the last like 30 years and I learned some basics but I'm running down that shit or going to hip when I bail.

I'm definitely not rolling in.

Also a very ramp doesn't mean pool or bowl.

I can skate the pool and have a little fun. The very ramp will put a loose screw in you. Not fun

While we're at it.....the term 'slash grind' is being over used....

A kick turn where you grind is just a grind....frontside or backside.
