my glasses get more fucked up from messing around with friends than skating which is sort of surprising, it's kind of amazing how my face just seems to attract footballs and lacrosse balls

worn glasses my whole life, never had a pair fall off my face ever or bother me while doing any activity. get your specs adjusted to fit your dome.

Stores will not adjust your glasses unless you paid for their overpriced shit. If you bought them online you are basically fucked. And what, you never slammed so hard they went flying off? I've had that happen a handful of times and even fell face-first on a pair and bent/scratched the fuck out of them.

Hey maybe a weird question.

Just got my first pair of glasses at 35 (never had vision insurance). Had my first sesh, just an hour yesterday. Incredible improvement. I can of course see better so my aim on ledges is way better.

Only issue is I’m noticing it’s changing my balance a little bit and during rotation tricks the fishbowl effect can be disorienting.

I’m sure many people here have been wearing glasses before they started skating but I figured I’d still ask. How long did it take to start feeling normal to skate again? I’m guessing maybe a week or so. It’s funny cause I feel like I’m skating better I just have a dip in confidence because of the change in perspective/depth perception.

I feel like long term they’re gonna be amazing but in the immediate I’m getting pretty dizzy and the change in balance is concerning me with bailing wrong.

I’ve been wearing glasses for 20 years now…  in my experience anytime I get a new prescription it takes about a week for my eyes/brain to adjust. I imagine since it’s your first time ever having glasses it might take a bit longer. You’ll get there

I've been skating with glasses the past few years, and I gotta say if you have the right type of glasses, it's pretty good! I wouldn't say it's better for performance compared to contacts, but the possibility of contacts falling out is a no-go for me. You want something plastic, light, and bendy. Big, square lenses help with the wind making the eyes dry, too. Some UV protection lense would be great if you skate during the day.

I've been experimenting with skating without glasses the last few days and it's working out quite well. I legally need them to drive and to see life in HD so I'm practically always wearing them. I thought I needed them to skate for depth perception and all that. Turns out I have a lot more confidence not worrying about breaking my only pair of glasses and I also look like less of a fucking dork. My favourite glasses are bent to shit from getting sucker punched so I've been sporting these super ugly and partially too big looking $60 Clearly frames and just couldn't take it anymore. Best decision I've made lately apart from switching to cupsoles.
I need glasses in daily life too but can skate without them (nearsighted).

I used to wear contacts and skate in them regularly, but they started irritating my eyes some months back and I decided to go back to glasses full time. I decided I wouldn’t risk breaking my only pair skating.

Skating-wise, I personally find I don’t have a problem correctly gauging distances/heights of obstacles or anything like that. I drive to the park/spot with them on and hide them while I skate.

Tried skating a ramp without mine and did not like it (nearsighted). My current pair has been flung off my head so many times on slams but they're still hanging in.

I got lighter, metal frames with nosepads for skating.. they stay on. Try a frame with nosepads if you haven’t yet

I always wear them when I skate now. Man I sounded like a massive douche 2 years ago...

I used to always wear the metal frames with nosepad style but switched over to acetate with the built in nose pad things and am liking them a lot better. They only fell off once so far in 2 years. They look better on me too I think.

I just got my first pair of progressive lenses and it’s a little weird adjusting but I’m on my second week and it’s getting better. My feet look a little blurry when I look at them and the fishbowl effect is pretty intense but much better than the first day I got them. Seriously was like walking around drunk or something. I hate adjusting to new glasses.

I've been using glasses for all my life, the only time they have fucked me was when I got a basktball to the face as a kid and the screws of the lenses got stuck to my head. Never got one of those frames with hanging screws again.
If your glasses fall often while skating, take them to where you bought them and ask for someone to fit them. For a long time I used glasses with loose arms without knowing they were poorly fit. Nowadays even while slamming it is rare for my glasses to fall off.
