foot placement for trick set up
« on: April 08, 2020, 01:21:01 PM »
i've been noticing that most pros have their back foot not hanging off the tail and was wondering if anyone else do their tricks set up like this. i've grown up thinking that hanging your back foot off the tail a little:

For sure keeping your foot in the edge adds for a quicker pop, but one could argue that doing it comfortably is more important for a good kickflip than this.

you're meant to pop with the toe/ball of your foot, so if you have it there you're actually getting much more of a straight pop off the centre of the tail than if you had your toes hanging off. Putting it even further down can help get you an even quicker pop because it will it the ground sooner.

that's called having your foot more "in the pocket"

what sorts of tricks help with putting your back foot more in the pocket? right now riding a board with some steep kicks and i feel like i have to put my foot on the tail in order to not get ghost pop

For me front side pop shuv has to be with my foot in the pocket or it gets out from under me. I’m also riding a board with mellow kicks so I’m trying to remember to pop my ollies from the pocket.

i need to use good pocket placement for regular frontside flips and impossibles but for almost every other trick it doesnt seem to make a huge difference

I've noticed that my FS flips and regular kickflips feel a lot nicer with my foot in the pocket. FS shuvs also

I put my foot at a 45 degree angle and place my arch in the pocket. I feel like this requires less effort than your foot on the tail. Also, easier to set up for 360 f/s tricks
