New Floating Points/Pharaoh Sanders/London Symphony Orchestra album Promises.

It’s a weird one, at times too restrained in my opinion, but a beautiful work nonetheless. Vinyl should be arriving shortly, sure it’ll grow on me.

Yeah I've listened to this a few times since it came out. I originally just downloaded it cause I like Floating Points, I had no idea who Sanders was/that he used to play with Coltrane.

3 songs from this EP are used for the soundtrack of Upping The Ante; a video that's basically the snowboard equivalent to something like Video Days, which I probably watched ten thousand times when I was 12 years old.

I've been getting really into emo rap these last few months... I know, I know, I'm pretty much inviting myself to get clowned on, but it's honestly sick and refreshing to listen to something completely new after listening to the same general genres of music for the last few years. So many of these rappers take influence not only from emo and pop punk, but also indie rock, darkwave, breakbeat, dancehall, and hyperpop.

This is one of my favorite songs that I've had on repeat. Love the bassline and the early New Order and Cure influenced sound.

I’ve been super into Weezer lately. I hadn’t really listened to them much in like ten years. Their 4 more recent albums (not including the cover album) are my favorite.
Black album, white album, ok human, and Pacific Daydream are my favorites. The last few days I’ve been listening to the Pacific Daydream album nonstop.
The only reason I’ve been writing and recording songs again lately is because of how hyped I’ve been on Weezer and Rivers.

I didn't realize until recently that the singer had developed really severe tinnitus/how much that effected the kind of music they record

If you grew up in the 90s watching skate videos, Zero's Thrill Of It All was likely on the list of films you paid attention to. It's an iconic film.

Before Wade Burkitt's part there is a man sitting curb, who says:

"I uhh, like I said, my name is Lynn. I astral project. I astral project. I go other places, that, I travel at times. I'm, I'm sorry"

https://youtu.be/CLaxmyL1sB0?t=294

Lynn appears to be in his late 30s to late 40s.

As skateboarders, we grow accustomed to encountering people in the streets who may fall outside the spectrum of "normal". Especially back in the 90s, when skateboarding wasn't really apart of mainstream society as a cool thing to do.

The word astral projection conveys visions of floating through space, at least to me. As 13 year old kid watching Thrill Of It All, I just assumed Lynn was drunk, or on drugs, and moved on.

Fast forward to 24 years later, present day, 2021 when I stumbled across an article:

"Found: Page 25 of the CIA’s Gateway Report on Astral Projection"
https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7e4g3/found-page-25-of-the-cias-gateway-report-on-astral-projection

It appears the US Army / CIA experimented with training people to astral project, which is defined in the article as:

"the psycho-physical phenomena of out-of-body experiences and remote viewing. With the right guidance and technologies, astral projectors believe, we can train our consciousness to move beyond the confines of the space-time dimension. This super-ability frees our human minds to travel through the universe, exploring an endless array of normally imperceptible realities and dimensions."

"It kicked off years of attempts by the US Army to train psychic soldiers to conduct “remote viewing” missions to regions across the world."

Whoa, Lynn was actually talking about some real shit. He would have likely been at least 18 when those studies were going on. What the hell is astral projection?

The Monroe Insitute has a method for playing certain tones while a person is asleep that affect the right and left brain to "promote brainwave outputs of higher and higher amplitude and frequency" which "for a brief instant it “clicks out” of space-time and joins infinity. Monroe’s theories maintain that if that “click-out” can achieve continuity you can begin dialoguing with other dimensions"

There is a sample at: https://soundcloud.com/thobey-campion-213983793/the-monroe-institute-spindrift-3
