If you grew up in the 90s watching skate videos, Zero's Thrill Of It All was likely on the list of films you paid attention to. It's an iconic film.

Before Wade Burkitt's part there is a man sitting curb, who says:

"I uhh, like I said, my name is Lynn. I astral project. I astral project. I go other places, that, I travel at times. I'm, I'm sorry"

https://youtu.be/CLaxmyL1sB0?t=294

Lynn appears to be in his late 30s to late 40s.

As skateboarders, we grow accustomed to encountering people in the streets who may fall outside the spectrum of "normal". Especially back in the 90s, when skateboarding wasn't really apart of mainstream society as a cool thing to do.

The word astral projection conveys visions of floating through space, at least to me. As 13 year old kid watching Thrill Of It All, I just assumed Lynn was drunk, or on drugs, and moved on.

Fast forward to 24 years later, present day, 2021 when I stumbled across an article:

"Found: Page 25 of the CIA’s Gateway Report on Astral Projection"
https://www.vice.com/en/article/v7e4g3/found-page-25-of-the-cias-gateway-report-on-astral-projection

It appears the US Army / CIA experimented with training people to astral project, which is defined in the article as:

"the psycho-physical phenomena of out-of-body experiences and remote viewing. With the right guidance and technologies, astral projectors believe, we can train our consciousness to move beyond the confines of the space-time dimension. This super-ability frees our human minds to travel through the universe, exploring an endless array of normally imperceptible realities and dimensions."

"It kicked off years of attempts by the US Army to train psychic soldiers to conduct “remote viewing” missions to regions across the world."

Whoa, Lynn was actually talking about some real shit. He would have likely been at least 18 when those studies were going on. What the hell is astral projection?

The Monroe Insitute has a method for playing certain tones while a person is asleep that affect the right and left brain to "promote brainwave outputs of higher and higher amplitude and frequency" which "for a brief instant it “clicks out” of space-time and joins infinity. Monroe’s theories maintain that if that “click-out” can achieve continuity you can begin dialoguing with other dimensions"

There is a sample at: https://soundcloud.com/thobey-campion-213983793/the-monroe-institute-spindrift-3

In the new Thrasher, Greg Hunt says that Mark Wyndham was astral projecting in '92.

For what it's worth, I had a book on astral projection when I was like 12/13 staying on my grandparent's farm. I tried it a bunch. Sometimes I felt weird. I'd like to try and look into it again.

Ancient Romans would like to have a word with you:

https://youtu.be/N0vEf9LqHEM

That one is sick! But I gotta stick with On Patrol being the best as far as distilling the sound he had been working on up until then. Ancient Romans felt like a departure, and it was cool and much needed, but OP was like the perfect culmination of something. Some werid-ass antiquated futurism.

Wow, never thought I'd see Matthias' work posted here. One of my favourite current sound artists and an all around great human.
Recently snagged copies of the Antropocen & Öppna Vattendrag tapes. Sloppy, lo-fi field recording/tape stuff in the vein of early Jeph Jerman, Andrew Smith, Eric Lunde, etc.
Sorry for rambling on about noise stuff that nobody cares about.

@skate_or_dingus hell yeah, the whole Utmarken/Gorg scene is the shit. Öppna Vattendrag is actually my favorite of his, Antropocen being second. The newer stuff is super tight, though. He has an interview in the second issues of Eyestrain zine that is something I constantly revisit as a source of inspiration.

Considered getting a noise/industrial/PE thread popping but I feel like it would get dusty fast.
