according to the top comment on youtube, this is Gasper Nali performing "Abale Ndikum Gem" on instruments he made himself out of recycled materials, "next to the Nkhata Bay in the Republic of Malawi." i have long since forgotten how i came across this, but i absolutely love this song and come back to it often

There used to be a video compilation of Milwaukee band The Frogs performing covers and their version of Birthday was beautifully atrocious. Left you with a sticky feeling instead of the sparkle you describe.

Wish I could find it but looks like a lot of their stuff has been scrubbed from YT.
