I thought about it, but I can’t get past it looking like a women’s watch.

I’d get the Outerknown Breitling if they brought that back.

Anybody who wears watches or is into the hobby?

Doesn’t matter if you wear a simple casio or a patek.
Anybody who is into it?

Anybody who follows watch channels on youtube like the slender wrist, theurbangentry, time teller...?

Whats on your wrist?

I own a seiko 5 SNXS79K automatic that i wear a lot as my go to watch,

a Timex  waterbury field watch that i‘d consider a beater and wear for sports, hiking, when i repair stuff...

.an bauhaus inspired junkers,

 junghans max bill,

an old russian Poljot sputnik that i like because of the dial,

a nomos metro 38 that i bought to use it more as a dresswatch but i find myself wearing it a lot,

two casios for work or swimming...

maybe gonna buy a vintage air king within the next few weeks. Had it on my wrist today and loved it.
Hey there, I've been into watches for a few years now. I'm currently wearing a Hamilton Khaki Field. I love the classic military look, and the lumen is pretty solid. I also have a Tissot Le Locle that I wear on special occasions. I follow a few watch channels on YouTube too, like Watchfinder & Co. and Teddy Baldassarre. They're great for reviews and keeping up with new releases. I often switch between my Orient Bambino and a vintage Citizen automatic for everyday use. Both are reliable and have their own charm.

So my wife bought me the Vaer field watch for my birthday but I’m thinking I might return it or at the very least exchange for another.

The crown is ever so slightly bent and it is playing havoc with my visual ocd. It’s also a large crown for the watch size and much more prominent than it looks in photos. I guess because it’s a screw-down crown it needs to be somewhat larger?

Size wise, it’s kind of weird in general. I opted for 36mm instead of 40mm. I preferred the face markings on the 40 but I didn’t want something too bulky.

I used to have an American made Eddie Bauer field watch that was 36mm, very light and slim, and I would almost forget I was wearing it. Somehow, the Vaer looks small on the wrist but is very dense and has a considerable heft. Might be heavier than my 38mm Seiko 5 auto.

Anyhow, don’t know what I’m going to do going forward. The Vaer feels solid and the movement seems likewise. The bands that it came with are kinda ass but could be swapped. I like that it’s legitimately waterproof. I wanted a quartz watch because I wanted something to set and forget.

I’d probably get used to the feel and size but given what my wife paid, I’m a little disappointed my initial impression wasn’t more effusive. (I initially asked for a sub $50 beater and she was insistent on getting something nicer). I still think my Seiko is a cooler watch but it’s sort of falling apart at this point and again, I’m sort of over dealing with an automatic (especially with sporadic watch wearing).

Was up north this past weekend where my wife had a date to catch up with an old girlfriend of hers. While they were lunching/drinking, I went wandering around the shopping plaza with my kid and ducked into the jewelry store to enjoy their AC and gawk at watches. Got to talking with the AD and trying on a few pieces, then when trying this one on, she mentioned it was available to take home that day if I wanted it. Doing the opposite of dumb, I told her it wasn't the time but I will be hitting her up when it is. Then I got the fuck out before temptation got the best of me 🤣

Gnats to you all for bumping this thread, I want to give @Willie and nice long-ish reply but shit is too busy at the moment…

The OG 62MAS I copped on the last page or so went in for a full service with my local watch guy, he said it’s in great condition both outside and in which is a relief m, but he’s a one man operation which means I won’t see the watch for 4 months!!!

Hey y'all. I'm in the market for a good watch, and weirdly enough this thread was the first thing that popped in to my head.

Currently rocking a completely smashed Gen 1 Apple Watch that I'm pretty happy with (except for battery time), but really I'm looking for something that has:
- Date
- Backlight / flouresence so that I can tell the time in the dark
- Won't get fucked by heavy rain (no need for deep diving capabilities though)
- Can take some abuse, so I can keep wearing it while skating and climbing.
- Second hand is fine – preferred even.
- Needn't be exclusive and expensive please, I don't wanna get mugged

Digi or analog doesn't matter. Any recommendations?

Gshock GA2100. $100 starting price. Gets more expensive when you get the metal face and such.

You can abuse the shit out of it, take it in water, piss, whatever, and it's a Gshock so no one mugging you for it.

Dang, I'm probably looking for something a bit more slim. I'll have to get a lifted F150 in order to accessorize that G-Shock properly, no?

They really don't feel that clunky when they're on your wrist. That is unless you're as skinny as Captain America before the serum.

But walk into your local Macy's as they always have Gshocks in stock (and on sale) and try them on. See which one fits best on you.

So I sent back the 36mm Vaer with the bent crown and decided I was going to go the beater route with a Seiko Alba or a Chinese “Berny” quartz knockoff of my beloved SNK809 (which I know I like the size of).

However, unbeknownst to me, my wife ordered me the larger Vaer.

It’s not massive but it definitely feels big. The crown doesn’t stick out as much as it did on the 36mm but I wonder if it’s going to be too clunky when kayaking and sailing (two of the reasons I’ve started wearing a watch again for).

I like the face better on this 40mm but the second hand hits a little further off the marks than it did on the 36mm, which is disappointing. Again, I like that it’s waterproof and feels solid but it probably needs a better band and I think it’s a little overpriced for what it is.

If I was buying it myself, I’d definitely go the cheaper route but I’m also worried I’m going to disappoint my wife sending it back.

@Willie watches that loved ones buy for you are such a double edged sword: they have infinitely more sentimental value, but if you’re an enthusiast who knows what he likes, it can be a bit of a nightmare if it is outside of those parameters….

If it is just a beater, not your daily then perhaps you could overlook the size? Our eyes adjust fairly quickly so while you may think a watch is too big/ small in the beginning, once your eyes adjust it’s not too bad (and larger faces of course have better visibility). I won’t speak to the quality/ design of Vaer because I’ve never owned one, but the first time you posted I honestly just wanted recommend something like a marathon quartz — tough as nails and you set and forget!

Thanks for the advice, GISM! It probably won’t feel that huge if I get used to it.

It’s definitely tough when you are gifted something you are very particular with - skateboards, tools, shoes, whatever. You don’t want to be ungrateful but sometimes the shoe doesn’t fit…

I also feel guilty when someone spends a good amount of money on me in general so that doesn’t help.

Your Seiko 5 SNXS79K is a solid choice—reliable and stylish. If you’re looking to expand your collection or just explore different styles without breaking the bank, replica watches can be a fantastic option. They let you enjoy the aesthetics of luxury watches without the hefty price tag.

Am I the only one who’s bothered by watches with big crowns at 3 o’clock?  Whenever I wore a watch like that it dug into my hand whenever I had to bend my wrist out.  Sizing issue maybe?

Anyway, not sure if we’re allowed to discuss smart watches/trackers in here.. but I really want an Apple Watch, I just hate how they look.  I just want a classier looking round one with similar capabilities, but they straight up don’t exist.  They’re all hybrids, not iOS compatible, inaccurate, too big, etc etc.

I really like the 4 o’clock crown on my Seiko. I wish that was more common.

My wife just ordered some kind of non-Apple smartwatch because she wanted something to measure steps and vitals but not all the other stuff. I’ll let you know if it looks decent and what brand it is when it shows up.

My favorite watches are from Tag Heuer because they embody a perfect blend of luxury and functionality. The durability and precision of Tag Heuer watches ensure they not only look great but also perform exceptionally well in any situation. Plus, the brand’s rich heritage in motorsports adds a touch of sporty elegance that I love.

I recently came across an excellent site that offers high-quality replica watches. They have a wide range of models, including some that closely resemble luxury brands but at a fraction of the cost. This could be a good way for you to try out different designs or enhance your collection. Check it out here if you’re interested!

While I don't promote replicas, I can never forget when a couple of classmates and I went to the Hong Kong market because they wanted to get fake Rolexes because, you know, we were in Hong Kong.

Old dude picked up on them asking for fake watched, he led them by the hand to an empty store front that only had two seats and a plastic table. He put a folder in front of them with the different style watches and my buddies both picked out which ones they wanted. The old man then wrote something on a slip of paper, passed it to one guy, who then walked away and passed it to another guy, and that person passed it to another guy. It must've changed 6-7 hands at the minimum.

The whole time I have my sling bag to my front and a fist ready just incase we were about to be robbed or trafficked. LOL.

At some point, I see some of the same dudes coming back. Again, passing something off in a ever so slight way then veering into another direction. Eventually one guy came back to the old man with two small bags. They were the fake watches. LOL. The man shows it to my friends. Shows it that it works. My buddies, sufficed with the goods nod and pay the dude. The old guy then sprints into the crowds of the bazaar and we never see him again. The whole ordeal took about 20 mins and left a lifelong memory. LOL.

$12 drugstore special.  It does absolutely nothing but tell time, but I actually like how it looks and fits.  If they could make this into a smartwatch I’d be sold.
