What are dimensions? Automatic GS always run too thicc for me. Still lusting after a Sbgv245 but it’s 40mm and I don’t think I’m at the point in my career where I can rock a GS, even though that sounds stupid. Like esmith too, I have way too many watches on my radar/ watch list on Yahoo Japan.
12.3mm thicc according to the interwebs

Not bad indeed 🤔
Personally I like the design of sbgv245 better and it’s quartz so I think I may have a fever or something...
I think that green hand will be polarizing and hard to match with straps, I guess you’re not really going to change straps that much if it’s a GS bracelet but still.

Currently contemplating this:
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j654670252

And maybe even this if I could get it for under a grand?
https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/e440879709

Vintage tudors can be Frankenstein-Watches though if they don’t come with papers.

Also maybe even a Sinn chrono but I need to clear out some of my collection to raise funds after paying full retail for the Seiko 62mas reissue I have coming in

Plus I believe it’s a touch thinner too? Both are decent looking watches but not quite in my wheelhouse. At least at the GS pricepoint

I‘m more and more tempted to get a hamilton fieldwatch.
I might as well get the seiko SNK809K2 but deep inside i already now that if i‘d do that i‘ll still end up buying the hamilton in a few months anyway.

Man, I just don’t think you can go wrong with a Hamilton field. I think they are a criminally underrated brand In the watch world. Real ones know though

It's basically just an investment piece; I doubt I'll wear it because it's too big but I'll easily make $500 on it. Will post a pic but if I was going to keep it, I'd actually want the 36mm version

both good choices pica, you probably shouldn't ever buy A because you want B though, it never works out...
here's my thoughts

SNK
pros:
- better size imho
- cheap
- if you're going to have a day function, the SNK is funky with blue Saturday/ red Sunday
- the dial is well thought out
- the lume still beats the hammy
- easy to customize and it doesn't matter if it breaks/ or you screw it up
- bead blast finishing

I had a sapphire crystal put on mine (AR coating on the inside) and got it regulated, it runs within +/- 5 secs a day and goes with any strap you can throw at it, all up it still only probably owes me $100 USD! It's downside is the movement though and if you're not wearing it daily you better like that seiko shuffle. Contrary to popular belief though, there is a little trick that lets you hack the movement at least within 2-3 seconds.

Hamilton Khaki
pros:
- history/ brand legacy
- movement, and not just because it's Swiss. 80 hour power reserve really is a god send when you've got a tonne of watches on rotation
- bracelet quality
- finish

having said that, the crystal has no AR coating and while I did say the finishing was a plus, it's polished. How you gunna polish a field watch? It goes against the whole principal of a field watch. in the 350 - 500 dollar price bracket though, you're not getting anything even close to that in terms of quality and I think it could easily be your daily driver due to the power reserve: take off on Friday evening and it's still ticking on Monday morning. Have you seen the lume though? You know you're a joke when Seiko 5 has you beat in that dept. Would prefer it to be 36 - 37mm too but that’s just me being fussy.
Defs buy it with the bracelet if you're going to get one!

Whoa, thanks for all the imput. The 80 hour power reserve is what got me into the hamilton at first. I dont mind a seiko shuffle here and there, but setting the date all the time can get anoying on my seiko 5.

Also i just came across the orient RA-AC0H02N10B. Looks like a great option as well, yet it runs really big with 43mm even for a field watch... i like how the hamilton has only 38mm.

Still i might order the orient to try it on. Never had one.

yes, setting the day/ date can be annoying when you're on the run, hence why I am liking non-date watches more and more these days (and dat symmetry!). Orient are great watches but they can never get their sizes right (hard glance @ bambino model). I'm guessing that is a pilot's watches because no field watch should ever be above 38mm.

If I was going to get a Hammy, I'd get this, but maybe it's a bit too casual to be an everyday driver (and you need to hand wind it):

Yeah, it has milsub DNA (because remember, omega made a milsub too) so putting it on a an admiral grey strap just amplifies that aspect of it! The Rolex milsub had welded spring bars too so you could only wear it on a one-piece anyway. Put it on a sage Nato this morning too and it looks 🔥 Having said that, the bracelet is very solid!
I really need to try on the 36mm version now...

That’s sick. Love the wave dial, wow
I'm not usually a fan of wave dials ttytt and definitely don't think they go well with the newer seamasters and their skeleton hands, but somehow it just works on this dial

haha, and bum my collection to 10+ watches? I’m *trying* to consolidate! Having said that I’ve got on again today and it ticks a lot of boxes in my dive watch category. Really curious to see the 36mm in the flesh, I’m guessing it will wear like a 38 which would be perfect 👌

Just lie to yourself, so you can easy justify keeping it by telling yourself you could flip it any day in the future.
Covince yourself you could make more and more money the longer you hold on to it, as you’re sure the worth will increase throughout the years.
You’re smart - the money isn’t spend, it’s just parked. The
Important question is do you need the money? If not - keep it for at least a while. You didn‘t buy a watch, you made an clever investement. Therefore you have to keep it, and wear it along the way.

that's a good way to think about, that's honestly how I approach watch collecting; nearly every single watch I buy, I make money on AND I usually wear it for a month or so (sometimes even a year like my lorier) so I essentially get to try out a lot of different types of watches and that helps me narrow my tastes down. If I really need money, I bounce everything bar maybe the citizen and I've still got a really cool daily driver. The omega is up for sale technically, but I'm not in a rush so I'll enjoy until I can find a 36mm in good condition.

I don‘t know.... i don‘t like the mercedes hands (one of the reasons i turned away from buying a modern day air king) but the tudor hands are even worse. Also the second hand. They always remind me of the space needle or the fernsehturm in berlin.

Mercedes hands are pretty divisive, if I was going to rock them it defs wouldn't be on a homage watch. I'm quite partial to cathedral hands though, hence why I love the Oris big crown pointer date.
Yeah, if you don't like Tudor snowflake hands then I guess you'll never own a Tudor, if I was going to nitpick, I'd say the minute hand is a tad too thin. Having said that, I've been lusting after a bb36 for a minute now...
