I just ordered a Casio F-91W-1Y. €20 with free shipping. Will do till after Christmas sales.

Thinking more about it, I wonder how resistant higher end watches are to strong magnetic fields? I've fried so many bank cards at work it's not funny. Would hate to destroy a €500 watch.

Cheers Pal. I'm loving the fact that CERN asked Rolex to make one.  But that is well above my pay grade. Gonna save some euros for the after Christmas sales..I'm tempted to test a few cheap watches in a magnetic field to see what happens. Slap pals watch nerds experiments.

How much does watch repair for an automatic watch cost? Is it worth doing on a lower end watch? I’ve got this Seiko where the winding weight thing started not fully engaging with the spring and now the weight doesn’t always swing freely - something it clearly wrong with the engagement of the pieces.

I always liked the way this watch looked but it wasn’t the most accurate timekeeper and needed to be worn every day to keep running.

great watch, the cream coloured version was my automatic. My watch maker adjusted mine for free, my guess is that the rotor just needs tightening. You can also get it regulated while the case back is open to make it more accurate. But yeah, it doesn’t have a hand winding option so you have to wear it everyday or give it the good ole “Seiko shuffle”

So after I wrote my post, I googled the model and “not winding” and apparently it’s a super common thing for this movement.

So, I bought a watch wrench from Harbor Freight (that was a complete piece of shit with way too much wiggle), opened the case, tightened the center screw on the weight, and BAM - it works!

What is in a watch that gets wrecked from magnetic fields?
Just bends all the little metal stuff inside?

pretty easy fix huh? I ended up taking mine to the watch maker anyway because I wanted it regulated and I wanted a sapphire crystal installed.

Looked the effects of magnetism on a (mechanical) watch up, b/c thought it's an interesting question.

Mechanical:

A mechanical watch affected by magnetism remains magnetized even after removing it from the magnetic source. This may cause a gain or loss of time and influence its accuracy. So we recommend that you have it demagnetized in order to improve accuracy.

Yeah, if someone sends you an automatic watch in the mail sometimes it can get magnetized in the post and it will mess with the accuracy, you can demagnetize them too fairly quickly but I think with bigger magnetic fields I think it can actually warp some of the finer parts…

first time buyer, picked up this off stockx

apparently it's super hard to find but googling around it doesn't seem so lol
the reviews say it feels cheap but i've never owned a watch and don't know the difference. it works and stays on my wrist so that's a 10/10 from me

I rolled my ankle jacking off on a ladder.

https://wornandwound.com/the-latest-seiko-5-sports-limited-edition-taps-into-japanese-skateboarding-culture/

Yuto has a colorway, or whatever you'd like to call it.

there was a Seiko 5 sponsored event in my hood last weekend and they had one of these on display. I was more interested in the turquoise diver in a Skx013 case…

But a nice watch if you’ve got the wrist to pull it off. I kinda feel like Yuto would already own a Rolex though so perhaps Grand Seiko would have been a a better sponsor for him?

Yuto needs to bring home another Olympic gold and he’ll get bumped up to Grand Seiko.

Like an olympic gold dial for him.

Are there any skateboarders with watch sponsorships outside Seiko and Casio/G-Shock?

I know Tag Heuer sponsor surfers such as Kai Lenny.

looks like it, hard to get a good still of it, didn’t look like it had a fluted bezel but defs on a jubilee with the date magnifier. Abigail was also wearing something on a jubilee but looked more IWC than Rolex…

I love the idea of Nuge skating in a Rolex, but hate the idea for 99% of other skaters doing the same. I feel like I only ever see asian immigrants and their kids wearing gold and steel watches. (I am one of them).

I had a gold/ silver Tag 1000, kinda hard to pull off for some people, but it really suits Nuge. Still hard to identify what it is; the two tone datejusts usually don’t have a black dial, or maybe it’s just some vintage oyster perpetual that you don’t see often …
