Whew, final boss down last night. Was one of those fights that at first seem impossible, but I started to piece together the moveset and get a little further every few tries. Put on every strong defensive talisman I had and remixed my Physick for defense and was able to take it down. Going back and finding any little secrets I might have missed because there's a ton of them from what I'm seeing. Also need to work my way back through on NG+ to try to do these NPC quests again and not fuck them up.

If anyone is on PC and wants to co-op or something hit me up.

Yo. The fire and magic twin swords are so sick. Was looking for a good pivot from my mage/moonlight sword build and was hoping I could get it from that boss.

Super fun, fast move set, and the ash of war is strong as fuck. Gotta tweak some talismans to get better dmg output and some more defense, but I’m loving the speed and how most attacks are a double tap

Yeah it’s a fun one. I pretty much pumped it up to +9 as soon as I got it, been playing with it a little bit.

I’m super precious with my dragon smithing stones so I have a TON of weapons at +9/+24. Can never decide to FULLY upgrade anything but now that I’m halfway through the DLC I should probably get over it. No point if I never use them

I've been a bit overwhelmed with getting new weapons and shit and being afraid to try them, but they drop stones like candy in this DLC so it seems like they want you to play around

I also completely maxed all of my smithing stones and somber smithing stones before starting NG+ and collected all the bell bearings so I can pretty much upgrade MOST of my weapons to +9/+24, but I gotta be careful what I max

Same here, I pretty much put most every weapon to +9/+24 prior to NG and even had Ancient Dragon Stones to spare, as I could not wholly commit to what weapons I should "fully" upgrade. Excited to start playing around with the new weapons, saw an interesting Chicken Leg build that I might have to try out.

Gave it an another try today. Happy to report that the Devine lion is no more. Second try (with both summons - NPC and ashes, though).
Gives my dark souls 1 vibes. I guess I just need to press on and get back into gear.

Thinking about maxing out one of the perfume bottles, probably the lightning one. It seemed like a gimmick but they actually put out massive damage.

People are wrecking shit with those, it's crazy

I started the DLC with my strength/faith build yesterday, has been fun to see how different the fights are and am actually having an easier time with it since I'm staggering shit so much quicker than on my DEX build. Little worried about last boss since it's Holy resistant but we'll address that when we get there.

Finished my second playthrough a few days ago. Final boss with no summons was a bit of a struggle but I just had to take the time to really learn the second phase which isn't as hard as it first seems but the moves don't telegraph well and there's a ton of AOE.

Started a seamless co-op playthrough last night with my buddy and it's been super fun. I'm using the Poison gloves and he's using the Madness glove and we're just punching the shit out of everything.

I beat Malenia for the first time last night. Just never got around to making it to the Haligtree.

Used the armor of solitude, and the great katana w/ flame spear AoW, with some lightning incants for range. DLC gear ftw!

I did use mimic tear, so there's that, but when the second phase came up, we fully stun locked her with jump attacks. She stood up for like 3 attacks lol. Might have just gotten lucky with the RNG.

Think I've got about 60% of the main bosses done in the DLC, but I've also been playing another character on the co-op mod. Need to put some time aside to grind the last half out

Just beat Mohg the other night, so once I finish the game I can start the DLC. Or should I go through the DLC first? I'm leveled up enough I think, but it is my first play through.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

My main character is all the way up to the final boss door in the base game before I started the DLC. You can start now, difficulty is more based off Scadutree Blessings (given your level is late/end game reasonable).

You can go back and forth between the two realms, so you don't have to lock into getting your ass kicked if its too tough. But if you can manage through, leveling up goes pretty quick at the start of the dlc

Finally got to commit a couple more hours to the DLC :
Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

I’m having so much fun playing with different weapons, especially the backhand blades, Milady, rellanas sword and the perfume bottles. Also the new spear I just got off the boss.

I also finally figured out guard counters and playing with sword and shield is WAY more fun now. I always sort of figured shields were only to parry but guard counters with a great shield simplify a lot of fights with difficult enemies like black knights.

Didn't touch the DLC for a few weeks and haven't had interest in finishing it. Think I made the mistake of running around too much and not going through Shadow keep earlier. Not looking forward to the final boss, looks like a bad time.

It's a fuckin fight alright. I've never been a big buff/min/max type guy but I had to really sit down and optimize my shit to get through that one. Once you can figure out how to dodge/block in the second phase it starts to feel possible but there's so much AOE and everything is so hard to read that it feels impossible for a while.

I did it, but I completely switched up my build I played my entire playthrough with which doesn’t make me feel super accomplished. However, the fight just was not any fun and I wanted to be done with it.

Technically I died but mimic was still up and Radahn was suffering from rot so he died immediately after me and I got the remembrance notification before the “YOU DIED” screen. When I revived at the grace, he was gone. Good riddance.

Going to finish up my NG+ playthrough and then start a NG++ playthrough to get some final remembrance items I want. Maybe I’ll consider starting a new character from there

Being that I don't have tons of time to play, I went on a good one over the weekend and took out Midra (2nd try), Messmer (5th try), Devonia (1st try) and Romina (1st try). Got about half way through Enir-Ilim and had to put it down (played like 12 hours straight). You really have to love all the horned warriors popping up around corners, especially on the quest for Euphoria when I was down to 0 flasks and the fucker just popped up out of nowhere on the staircase down...

Actually looking forward to the Consort Radahn fight, although I'm sure I'll rage several times during it and I do wish it was Godwyn instead of Radahn, that would have been way cooler in my opinion.

The Bayle fight has still been my favorite, Igon made that shit too epic, true drake warrior shit.

Definitely report back when you’re through, I’m interested to hear other players feedback. I feel like none of the bosses gave me a ton of trouble until Radahn. Messmer maybe took me 6-8 tries but otherwise the only enemies I had a ton of trouble with were early furnace golems.

Edit: Commander Gaius fucked my shit up, he took me a while

Not too many problems with Gaius, took maybe 6 tries, but honestly I got fucked up by Scadutree Avatar, Metyr, Mother of Fingers and even Rakshasa to the point I had to change my build (no respeking, just weapon changes) to suit their weaknesses, which like you said, feels like less of an accomplishment. My Royal Greatsword has carried me through the DLC heavy, so it sucked to have to swap out to Bloodfiends Arm, Blasphemous Blade, Dragon-Hunters Great Katana or even Rivers of Blood just to get through a boss, as I was doing this run in Blaidd's honor and memory. But yet again, that's why the put different weapons in the game in the first place, to help you out in specific situations.

I'll let you know how Radahn goes, should be there this weekend.

The first time I beat Gaius he gave me so much trouble because after the initial attempt he would just be waiting in front of the spawn door and would immediately trample you. They've since patched it so he does the same run-in from across the battlefield every time and that made it much easier on my second playthrough, gives you time to at least get your bearings.

Since I only have limited time these days, I made it to Gaius post-patch, but heard that was a real pain in the rump for people and can imagine it was, Gaius doesn't fuck around and hits hard with odd hitboxes. I would summon Torrent to get the iframes even with the long charge, as I was trying to max buffs after the fog gate.

Gaiuss was much more manageable once I found how to dodge the initial charge. My mark was timing the dodge to go diagonally between the boar's tusk and face to his left, and finally got some consistency after many deaths.

If you try and stay close and calculated, he more or less turns into an aggressive Tree Sentinel with some extra tricks. Staying further than arms reach was just too much bullshit raining down on me.

Wonder if a shield/turtle build could tank his heavy hits.....

Took a couple shots at Prime Lover Radahn the other night, nothing too serious, he definitely hits hard and fast. Luckily I've got all weekend to play, so one way or another I'll make it through the Devine Gate of Corpses. I've been watching tons of content about the fight in preparation, as I really don't want to have to resort to a shield/spear build, as I've never been much of a shield guy anyways. At least if I summon an ash besides the mimic it WON'T STAGGER AS EASILY... The recent update definitely tweaked a couple of weapons and skills to make some other options for viable, I'll have to see when I dive in after work.

But regardless of the DLC, I've been having a blast running through the base game and fighting bosses with no spirit ashes, trying to improve my gameplay because admittedly on the 1st playthrough I relied on them heavily and got BKT relatively early.

I definitely was not a shield guy until the DLC and now I’m kicking myself for not using them earlier. Guard counters really help especially when dealing with groups of enemies. Now I have multiple medium and great shields with “no skill” ash of war to pair with my different builds

Guard counters and parries are definitely a plus, I've fucked around a bit with them but need to put in more time on parries especially, as it is such a useful mechanic. Watching videos of people just parrying Miquella's Boy Toy to death got me all excited about doing a shield run, I'll have to git gud and run that on my next playthrough.

My parry timing is terrible. I spent a couple hours early in my first playthrough trying to figure out parry timing on the first evergaol crucible night and eventually just gave up.

Fuck the Blackgaol Knight. It seriously took me way too many tries to beat him. Like over 30. I've had easier times with full on shard bearer bosses than that prick.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.
