its crazy to me guys like shane oniell, p.rod, grant taylor, jake johnson, spanky, alex olson & jerry hsu are now in the twilight of their careers and are now the established guys. if anything comes out now, its probably a final part or something. even thinking in terms of dylan (rest in peace). really strange feeling.

Shane and Grant still have a fair bit more footage in them. Shane seems pretty driven at what he's doing. He consistently puts out a part a year. Jerry, P-Rod, and Spanky are also significantly older and broke out way earlier (Jerry has 411 parts). I mean, Jerry is closer in age to Carroll, Koston, MJ, than he is to Grant and Shane.

Agree with this. Also, twilight-phase footage from big-name pros is often a pretty special thing.

I think there might be some conflating ‘prime’, with ‘Capable of putting out awesome/compelling footage’. Feels like everyone on that list is past their own prime. Several have much more to give, if they choose.
I’m just saying prime is probably like what, 20-27? Some of those people are still very close to that age, but they have also already had many years of getting pretty gnarly. To get that far in the world of skateboard ability, and put out that much footage, you gotta love it. I totally see why people like say, pj, appleyard, seemingly shut it down and start skating more chill stuff: you got to if you want to keep doing it.
Again, some of these people will continue to skate at a really high level, but I’m not sure if they still in their own, personal prime.

For most people it’s 20s but you get the odd Daewon Song whose prime might have been later. Or 2019 Chico which is my favorite Chico
[close]

Daewon is in that select category above great, legend. His prime stretches so many years because his style kept evolving. You could argue Deca Daewon was his tech prime (i.e. 2nd to None). Then there's Round 3 where he's super tech but you start to see glimpses of his transition skills which come to full fruition by Skate More and then he just continues to take off from there with the tech/transition skating.
[close]
The thing with Daewon, is that he combines technical ability with an eye for spots that is almost unmatched. There are probably a select few skaters who have his technical ability (for example MJ), and a select few who would consider skating some of the spots he does in Skatemore or Almost 5 Incher, but no one else combines the two like he does.

I'd add Cromer and Wes Kremer of guys I haven't seen mentioned yet. Also surprised no one has mentioned Jake Johnson yet. Bobby DeKeyzer is another.

Jake's prime was from 2007-2017 and I say that with a bit of sadness as he's my all time favorite.  He changed skating during that time, from Mindfield to the early GX stuff.

Heitor was born to Brazillian parents in Brazil, moved to Norway at 6 cuz of his Step-dad who is Norwegian, and then moved to Sweden to go to that school in Malmo.

Being on the older side of life and skating most of my life I respect every name listed.

However when considering the real GOATS and GOATS-to-be I cant help but laugh at some of the names listed.

Shane..Suciu, Gillet, Worrest etc.... Dont get me wrong, they are amazing and some my current favorites. Most of their part are better (aesthetically appealing) than some of the GOATS parts even.

But to be a GOAT or GOAT-to-be you need to be an ATV.

One with the board vibe:
ATV (ALL TERRAIN boy or get the fuck out)
DAEWON,
CARDIEL,
GT,
DAAN upcoming,
ISHOD
etc..
Damn even street Cab gets my vote, at least he tried

This thread is just full of people who are posting really good contemporary skateboarders. Most of the people listed probably won’t be remembered by your average skateboarder in 10 years (the future all time great part).

I’d say Gilbert Crockett and Jake Johnson should be in the mix (although you could argue neither are in the “prime”)
