I'm coming off SSRI's right now. Was taking Lexapro/Citalopram 20mg for about two years. I'm excited to get this stuff out of my system. I find the medication to be either extremely subtle to non existant.

I've been tapering down for the last three weeks with no extreme side effects. I've been slightly more irritable and my sleep schedule is out of whack but it's too ambiguous to tell if it's because of cutting down or not.

Back in 2018 I've been prescribed with antidepressants. Been on it for about 1 year and a half and decided that I'd go clean and weened it out. I've been off it ever since June of that year and I lost fs tailslides instantly along with losing consistency with certain tricks. I learned fs tails when I was on the pill.

Skated for a few weeks after that and I had to quit skateboarding for 6 months since I was nursing my dying golden retriever.

I can't help but wonder, although antidepressants made my symptoms of depression worse; it made my skating a lot better. I'm tempted to go back on Lexapro even though I don't have symptoms of depression anymore. I want to give it another go so I could skate better. I've skated from November of 2019 to March 2020 everyday but I didn't get better at skating.

Does anybody here have a similar experience? How'd you guys find antidepressants and skating?
I can answer your question from my unique perspective ( I’m a Neuroscience major at Rutgers).
The reason you started skating worse after stopping may indicate that you still do have symptoms of depression, because depression can cause cognitive impairment and affects movement by slowing everything down. Also, you don’t need to feel sad to be depressed. Other symptoms are lack of motivation and low energy, which could be the culprit. If anything, you skated better because you were the best version of yourself on the meds. I’m guessing you have a low grade depression rn.
Word of advice, if you have depression then you will probablyf need meds. But you can try other antidepressants that might work better for you. Or you can get 5-HTP, SAM-e or St. John’s Wort which are all natural antidepressants you can buy at most pharmacies or health food or supplement stores, even the grocery store.
Hope this helps

You ever been assessed for adhd?
Since I was like 16 I been prescribed a fair list of ssri meds and couple others like trycyclics and snri types. Nothing helped and they all had their own unique way of making me more miserable or sick.

Got diagnosed with adhd and medicated for it, and in a week it pretty much straightened out every problem I'd had, and I feel like the person  I want to be, or I'm at least in  a better mental state to build myself up to being the person I want to be.

I know a lot of people are skeptical about the diagnosis itself and more so the medication, but you wouldn't give anti depressants to someone who's not depressed, if you have it the meds work, so an assessment isn't a bad idea if you can see a specialist and get it subsidised or covered, and even if you can't and it's out of pocket it's still worthwhile in my opinion, but only if it's a specialist for adhd. Anyone else is likely to not take it seriously enough at best and be downright dismissive at worst.

It turned my life around, and made my skate sessions a lot more productive and focused. And I no longer require half a litre of redbull to have the energy and motivation to skate.
Dude just pop...

This might seem counter-intuitive, but if you are skating a ton and not doing all the stretching and warm up etc, your skating might be suffering as a result.

I find if I skate hard for a week, some of my tricks feel really bad, but if I take a break for a few days they come back better than before. It could be that the mind is willing but the body is fatigued?

I hope you get it sorted, OP

That's a common thing - sounds like overtraining in sports: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overtraining

It's not actually common, 95% of the population does not have the mental power and motivation it takes to actually over train the body with the actual medical term of over training. 95% of people will be too mentally fatigued or deal with a over use injury in the body WELL before they literally over train.

This is really bad advice.
