Not sure what people's intentions are here but I don't think anything we are doing in NA / EU is "correct". there is a reason china and russia are teaming up etc. i imagine they are thinking "those guys have had it too good for too long". not trying to say what they are doing is right either but i think that is pretty high and mighty of us to think we are doing justice to the world lol.
I think it is pretty fucked up we need canadian maple trees to make skateboards, but we are not competitive in the skateboard manufacturing industry at all. our country has all the resources to make it, but I would guess that the labour cost is very high here. On top of that, we have a lot more laws against pollution and shit like that to make doing business here more expensive. Those things happened possibly in good faith, but maybe not, and they were very short sighted. Because what we end up doing anyway is just shipping all our raw resources over to china, spend a ton of petrol on the boat there and back, and then use a fuck ton of epoxy and chemicals to make the boards extra awesome and sell em back over here. the exact thing we were bent on banning. the same thing happens with shoes (we ban the process but we still buy the goods in the end), and even with oil (we have tons of oil here but we have to get it refined elsewhere).
