Anybody cop up?
First impressions?
Managed to get one. I didn’t get a Sugar Momma, sadly.
But my internet is bad so I spent the first day downloading CoD and updating. The controller needed an update, oddly.
The first bugs I’ve seen is that you have to check to make sure you downloaded the right version of games. The controller won’t charge plugged into the console so you’ll have to plug it into the wall. Not sure if Cold War is that bad but there is some lag.
Other than this, if you have PSN Plus you get like 20 games for free. There’s game that comes with the console called Astros Playroom that focuses on showing off the controller and it’s actually really good. There wasn’t enough games at launch but you can play a lot if not all your digitally purchased games.
Weird, it charges fine in the front USB of the console for me.
As far as my own first impressions, I'm a big fan of the new controller. I agree that Astro's Playroom does a really good job of showing off how the new tech, especially the adaptive triggers. I could see this being used in some pretty cool ways, but also potentially kind of gimmicky at some point (but you can always just turn it off which is nice).
I was kind of bummed that I could only get the disc edition at first, but I immediately changed my mind as soon as I watched a 4K Blu Ray for the first time (Into the Spider-Verse). A movie like that with intense detail really benefits from the higher bitrate compared to streaming 4K.
The only other game I played was Fortnite for about 20 mins, mostly to see how much it differed from PS4. Going from the 1080/30fps PS4 experience to the 4K/60fps PS5 one was actually really noticeable (in a good way). They also tried to take advantage of the new controller with some crazy dynamic vibrations and making the right trigger feel different for each gun (which I actually didn't care much for).
That's pretty much all I've got for the first couple hours with it. It's always risky getting a new console at launch, especially with all the reports of bugs and shit, but so far so good! I'm excited to get into some new games that really take advantage of all the new tech.
edit: Apparently some other people had similar charging issues, but there was a software update overnight that should resolve this. And there's also a setting in "System" called "Features Available in Rest Mode" where you can set how long to supply power to USB ports once you're in rest mode.
