Will you buy at launch? Is this on your radar? Is this too much tech for too much money?

I heard they are going to be like $750 USD which is a little pricey for me and I kinda prefer PC gaming. I dunno

They just announced Resident Evil 8 and I am frothing at the mouth over it. I hope they make it for PS4, too, though.

For real, the GTA 5 shit was so dumb.

I think it looks like shit.

Ratchet and Clank was the only thing I saw that actually looked fun, but I turned off the stream. I was working, and kept getting distracted by nothing interesting.

What an underwhelming showcase of launch titles, no wonder they kept delaying the presentation.

Holy shit yes, what a terrible opener. If they had followed it up with GTA6 reveal it would make sense. But opening with a ps3 game was wack.

But I'm hyped on the rest. About half of the games shown I can't wait to play, even if a lot of them are sequels.
Not a fan of the design, looks like a fucking air purifier.

https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2020/6/11/21288541/playstation-5-ps5-sony-design-memes-roast-twitter-router-face-building

Highlights for me:
Deathloop
that cat game
spiderman
demon's souls cause fuck yeah dark souls

Respect for gta5 though. Can't think of another game that has been on three updated versions of the same console.

To be fair the price of making games are so ridiculous these days that Sony's probably not trying to back an unproven ip during a launch window. Assuming you're talking about new franchises, cause there was a decent amount of games.

What I get hung up on is how safe Sony and Microsoft are playing things. None of what they've shown feels like a new gaming experience, more like an upgrade.

Sure, but costs of development have gone down a lot. That's why games are still at 60 dollars. Tons are sold through digital channels.

Also, new IP do sell, so it is no excuse, there is a demand.

My last point: we never really forced the devs to jack up the costs because of the graphics alone. Give us interesting mechanics and something fresch. If they offered a quality product, none of this DLC, season pass, microtransactions, limited, gold edition horse shit would be needed.

I want new franchises too, I'm just explaining the likely logic being used. If you look at all the new franchises that released within 6 months of the ps4, xbox one, or switch launch Titanfall was the only one that people gave a shit about. From a business perspective Spiderman 2 is an easier sell than a rushed version of Elden Ring. New IP didn't really take off last gen until shit like Bloodborne came out.

Maybe not Titanfall, since it underperformed, but I get your point.

Managed to get one. I didn’t get a Sugar Momma, sadly.
But my internet is bad so I spent the first day downloading CoD and updating. The controller needed an update, oddly.

The first bugs I’ve seen is that you have to check to make sure you downloaded the right version of games. The controller won’t charge plugged into the console so you’ll have to plug it into the wall. Not sure if Cold War is that bad but there is some lag.

Other than this, if you have PSN Plus you get like 20 games for free. There’s game that comes with the console called Astros Playroom that focuses on showing off the controller and it’s actually really good. There wasn’t enough games at launch but you can play a lot if not all your digitally purchased games.

Yeah, need at least five games and a price drop before I make a purchase. Early suckers adapters can debug the fucking thing.

Weird, it charges fine in the front USB of the console for me.

As far as my own first impressions, I'm a big fan of the new controller. I agree that Astro's Playroom does a really good job of showing off how the new tech, especially the adaptive triggers. I could see this being used in some pretty cool ways, but also potentially kind of gimmicky at some point (but you can always just turn it off which is nice).

I was kind of bummed that I could only get the disc edition at first, but I immediately changed my mind as soon as I watched a 4K Blu Ray for the first time (Into the Spider-Verse). A movie like that with intense detail really benefits from the higher bitrate compared to streaming 4K.

The only other game I played was Fortnite for about 20 mins, mostly to see how much it differed from PS4. Going from the 1080/30fps PS4 experience to the 4K/60fps PS5 one was actually really noticeable (in a good way). They also tried to take advantage of the new controller with some crazy dynamic vibrations and making the right trigger feel different for each gun (which I actually didn't care much for).

That's pretty much all I've got for the first couple hours with it. It's always risky getting a new console at launch, especially with all the reports of bugs and shit, but so far so good! I'm excited to get into some new games that really take advantage of all the new tech.

edit: Apparently some other people had similar charging issues, but there was a software update overnight that should resolve this. And there's also a setting in "System" called "Features Available in Rest Mode" where you can set how long to supply power to USB ports once you're in rest mode.

Skate 4's confirmed, at least. I'm sure there'll be a GTA VI around the time we get ready for the PS6.

If EA doesn’t drop Skate 4 for this console and continues to drop the same games over and over (FIFA, 2k, Madden). I’m going to fight someone over there.
