I think it's got to do with who they got in the pipeline right now and not wanting to squeeze them out, obviously Mason and Evan are huge gets for deluxe but I would imagine Julien wanted to make sure that they didn't squeeze out any of the longer term riders that haven't gotten their name on a deck yet ie Cedric and Div.

Well I have like 9 Andy Anderson dated flight decks.

It might’ve been the 10 year Anti Hero anniversary article in Slap that mentioned what happened with Dylan after Rasa Libre. He went on a few trips with the Anti Hero crew, but didn’t vibe well with them. I imagine it having to do with him being a teenager and they were all adults at the time. One of the examples listed involved him annoying the shit out of Cardiel when they were rooming together

I’ve seen on here several times that many people were voted for by everybody on the team except for tony t. Dylan especially.

Would love to hear that story, I would assume Cardiel would be good with everyone.

If I’m remembering correctly they argued over how cold the air conditioner should be set. One of the best street skaters of our time didn’t get on because he preferred a colder room of all things. It was the main article from the June 2006 issue of Slap*; I wish I could scan it but my copy is long gone

*Pretty sure that’s where it was talked about in print

I know Dylan who tried to get on Anti-Hero, isn't the same fashion focused/supreme guy he grew to be, but that Dylan on Anti-Hero always would have been a really weird fit. Seems to have worked out well for all parties involved. Anti-Hero is still one of the most popular board brands around, and Dylan became iconic.

Anti-Hero has always been big on DIY, partying, road-trips and camping. Which really doesn't blend with Dylan's image. Sometimes great skaters don't fit established brands image. Imagine Daewon on late 90's Zero,

Can't imagine Dylan pile-ing out with AH crew in tents, not showering for days and only wearing Dickies and flannel shirts.

Daewon has some pretty hash spots, pretty sure he knows all the ditches in the LA area. Lots of spots in the hood too.

Worked out for everyone indeed. I remember reading somewhere that when Grosso joined it was a unanimous vote for him.

He still hasn’t responded since that time I told him Gipper was ready to fight him after school by the flagpole.

I hope it's never easy to get on 18.

That's the most attractive thing about the brand.

Ha!

Totally right.  Also pretty much me, sad to say, although I did have a shower yesterday, but had worn and slept in my Dickies and flannel shirt the last three days before that.  I blame covid.

But yeah, AH are dirtbags to the core!

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

The other thing while I think about it is AH and some companies are more of a tight knit group of mates, than a skateboard team spread out across the country, or globe.

I know they live in different places, but many do seem to be around the same general (bay) area a fair bit or not too far to drive, I guess the exception being BA in NY, Grant in ATL or the other international dudes don't often get together that often.

Seeing that they all have input into who gets on the team is another interesting thing now, which might not have been quite that well formed a while back when it was more just Julian, John and Frank (and the others on the early team), with Pete and then very young TNT and then it sort of formed a bit more from those guys as the lifers.

Others like AA being the only dude to voluntarily leave in the current era is another interesting point, even though I liked what he put out a lot more back then, he grew and changed and is in a better place now than before, whether or not that "Point Break" body board rider graphic of his was a tell of the future, or just coincidence...
