Today it’s grip, tomorrow is a deck and some shoes. You should be received with love.

Money is money. Is buying just bolts bad? A kingpin? Where does it end. They will adore you like no other i'm sure.

If a shop has a problem with you just buying grip tape you shouldn't give a fuck what they think. At the most it's worrying about upsetting someone who may or may not be good at playing with a toy.

A sale is a sale. My guess is their profit margins on smaller items like griptape, bolts or soft good than hardgoods like decks or trucks. I'm sure HUF made more money selling weed socks than shoes.

I figure it would go something like this..

Customer : "One sheet of Mob grib please"

Skate shop worker : "What? , grip? , you come all the way into our shop and ask for grip? Of all the beautiful and wonderful things we have in stock, you come here and ask for grip? You could buy a fantastic Creature board, a true work of art. And you want grip? We have the highly in demand eS Scheme, the classic Globe Chet Thomas 4, and you have the audacity to ask for a sheet of griptape? Man, 2020 has been so rough and downright hostile. That's it, it's over, I QUIT!.."

Customer: ". .. .."

In this age of everyone complaining about any sort of mistreatment on social media they should 100% cater to you whether you are buying a set of stickers or just socks

They should be happy you're not being a diversion so people can steal from them.

I remember being able to go into a shop and buying one NMB bearing to replace the one I blew out.

What is arguably the most popular shop where I live refused to sell me a sheet of grip like 10yrs ago. I still don’t shop there.

It’d be cockbag behavior if you walk in with a deck from elsewhere and expect them to grip it for you, or to expect that grip to be free.

If a shop is annoyed with you purchasing grip or hardware they’re the cockbags.

it is if you're buying it because you like to wrap your hands in griptape and sand your naked body with it and not to put on a deck.

Not at all....it can be more expensive than you think though.....what you don't do is just stroll in there asking for free grip....

When everyone was rioting over toilet paper.....I bought a roll of grip........

one time i tried to buy 2 sheets of grip online, but mistakenly purchased 2x2 sheets of grip.  no biggie, until it came time to purchase a deck from the local, and they could tell i had bought shit online and not from them because who would dare buy a deck with no grip???  awkward!!!

ha.

If a shop is annoyed with you purchasing grip or hardware they’re the cockbags.

Did this once when my wife bought me a new deck online. I walked in the shop, asked for grip. Then after a second of checking my phone (work emails), I asked for trucks, bolts, bearings, and wheels.

If I owned a skate shop I would definitely be angry if someone came in to buy something that I am trying to sell. I'm trying to run a place of business over here, NOT a place of business.

It was FTC wasn’t it lmao, I got cool guyed harder than I’ve ever been cool guyed the one time I went there. And they tried to charge me $85 for an FA deck.

I feel weird buying just a sheet. I’ll buy something like stickers or socks. That is, depending on the shop. If the vibes are off I get the sheet or two and leave.

That's also a good litmus test. If you're cool with me buying a sheet of grip, I'll look at the rack of shop shirts and find one so I can rep the nice guy shop. Fuck being cool guyed.

Nothing wrong with just buying griptapes. Most of my purchase are thru online, bcoz there's no skateshop in my area, the nearest is 14hrs drive or a 2hr flight across the sea to another state. So whenever i found a skateshop when travelling to other states, i'll try to support the local scene by buying something which usually would be sheet of griptape / bolts or some bushings.

Buying griptape is totally OK, but I once saw at my local a guy who brought a complete bought online and he asked for the board to be gripped and assembled...

If I was the guy working at the shop I would have done the same thing also, I love assembling skateboards.
