Made me smile. Nice to read a positive story these days.

I started snowboarding in 1993, the same year southwestern PA was hit by one of the biggest snow storms of my lifetime. One of my best friends in school got a snowboard video for Christmas (he didn't have a snowboard oddly enough) and I watched it over his house like a week after Christmas. I honestly couldn't believe what it was I was watching. Completely blew me away. The video was called TB2, and it's on YouTube now if you're interested (probably not). But I ended up saving up half the cost of a snowboard and parents matched that and that's how I started. Boots from Payless. Learning to ride down hills in my neighborhood. My friends and I would take turns using my board. By the next year those friends got boards for Christmas and we joined our school's "ski club" and the rest is history.

I still enjoy skating more and always put that first but snowboarding is fun. It just costs a lot of money to take part in, isn't convenient, and relies on the weather a lot.

Also, Jake is rad and I'm happy he finally can be a happier person.

Glad to hear this is happening.

As for snowboarding and wooden toys, the funnest time I’ve ever had going sideways is on a handmade pow surfer.

5 ply blank someone I know presses, and I cut it out, shape it, sand it, paint it, and put a bit of traction on it (I’ve found that strips of old mountain bike tire works best).

Hike up a snowy hill and surf it. Nothing else I’ve done comes close to the fun.

Guys are starting to get technical on them, doing steep stuff and kick flipping them too.

Jake's the man and I'm happy he is living life to the fullest. Amidst all the chaos of 2020 it's cool to see such acceptance that will surely save a few kids lives out there who are uncomfortable in their own skin.

The past two winter's I worked part time at 7 Springs as a lift operator (free season pass). While it is a dominantly white activity, I would see quite a few poc while loading chairs.
