i mostly ride indys and my biggest complaint is that they handle best on a 14.5 wb, but they're too heavy on a 14.5 wb. nobody makes a 31.8" deck with a 14.38" wb either. they also feel kinda tall when you have a narrow setup. i might try out the forged or ti version next time because that would solve both of these issues.

https://skateparkoftampa.com/spot/cz.aspx?ID=1&SID=1777&M=

^^ lol wtf SIZE 7.75 X 31.75 WB:14.5 - that has to be wrong.

Once you ride Ace’s every truck has too many cons to deal with. Not that Ace’s shit QC isn’t their biggest con but I can’t escape them. Thought I was a theeve convert for awhile but then was over it.

Indy
Pro- Turn pretty good.
Con- Slap amateur detectives have concluded that they celebrate the atrocities committed by the Nazi party in the name of the German people in the early and mid 1940’s.

Thunder
Pro- Light, snappy trucks that pinch nice.
Con- The 15 year old that rips at your local park and plans on filming a “street part” one day probably skates Thunders.

Venture
Pro- Classic AWAKE logo shirts are the best shirt you could ever wear.
Con- Those two bolts are always a little bit of a pain in the ass to take on and off.  Not the most comfortable mallgrab.

Theeve Titanium Jawns
Pro- Super light, nimble, turns great.
Con- You just spent $250 on trucks you jackass.  Sticks on metal.

Royals
Pro- Light enough to easily toss into even the tallest  dumpster.
Con- Cheaply made garbage.

Krux
Pro- Have that hole in them so you can practice French kissing.
Con- What do they do with the metal that would have been in place of that hole?  Where’s it all at?  What are they hiding?

Tensors with the slidey pieces
Pro- They have slidey pieces!
Con- They have slidey pieces.

Ace
Pro- They look cool.  They, in turn, make you look cool.  People will like you and confide in you easier.
Con- They turn too good.  Who needs to turn that much?

Thunder - bushings crumble and break for me

Yeah that’s a big con. I put orange indy bushings on my 148s.

They were kind of a gimmicky thing in the early 2000’s.  I guess they were supposed to make nose and tailslides easier and slide farther.  I never actually tried them but I remember at the time thinking “oh my god this is the future...”

Doing this on mobile so hopefully it shows up a non-obnoxious size, but this is the ad I remember:

Holy dog shit!!!!!!!! Tensors are soooooo garbage. That gave me a good laugh or two, I tried them from a homie in Santa Barbara they lasted maybe a week or two and instead of wheelbite sometimes it chunks a ledge or two and pitches your ass forwards.

Interesting story about a set of Royals I had,  whenever I did a skate program for my hood.

Went to the local and some kooky swag dog complimented my newish royal trucks They were the Nyjah black Rasta colorway mind you I scored this complete at a pawn shop for $15.

I asked him if he wanted to swap trucks? I looked at his setup and they were some beat Indy hollows so I swapped them out for the Royals I considered it a decent trade even though I personally think they were garbage in the first place.

Here's some ones that don't get mentioned too often that I think are worth throwing in the topic

Theeve 5.85(149) Tiax V3
Pros: -Turning is solid (Similar to indy)
          -Great stability(manuals especially stood out)
          -Excellent grind
          -Good Kingpin clearance
          -Pretty Light
-Great amount of baseplate contact for slides
          -Very durable

Cons:- Rattley unless the kingpin nut is tightened quite a bit slightly passed the point of being flush with the kingpin(not really a fan of that 'tight' truck look)

-The titanium axle is strong but felt thinner. Wasn't a fan of that slightly less solid feel under my feet

-Takes a little extra time to the grooves going from  grinds

Tensor 5.75 ATG Mag Light
Pros: -Best grinding truck I've ever skated(go to for
           concrete)
-Great turn(Indy and thunder cross with some
           softer/mid soft bushings)
          -Very stable
          -Great kingpin clearance
-Nice amount baseplate contact for slides

Cons:-Sometimes too light for my liking(had to be extra precise with you weight distribution on board
slides and more light footed with certain tricks  especially flip tricks)

-Not the most durable

Destructo D1 squadron 6.0
Pros:- Good turning(reminds of an venture high with
           more a little more arc)
         - Very stable(felt very confident when popping my nose or tail)
-Insane kingpin clearance(most of any truck I think)
          -Smooth grind

Cons:-Bushings were too hard for my liking
-Had to a defective pivot cup that need to be
           replaced
          - A little too tall for my liking

Ace 66 (V2?)
Pros-Amazing Turn(best carving hands down)
        -Excellent grind
-Fair stability(when considering how responsive they
         are)
        -Nice height

Cons- Pivot cups arent that durable
         - Not much kingpin clearance

Indy - durable but heavy
Tracker - super heavy
Gullwing - plastic baseplate always breaks..
Venture - light and techy. my favorite truck during the small wheels era.
Standard - i forgot why the hell i bought em when they 1st came out
Fury - coz tony hawk & arto saari used to ride them
Orion - also forgot how they ride
Thunder - turns good. the titanium version are nice.
ace - turns super good.love the 55s
tensors - got 1 for free, the expatriate family transferred back to holland. they left a set of completes..chocolate deck with tensor s trucks and chocolate wheels..this was sometime in 2001

Those old tensors were so bad. My friend still has a set. After like 20 years of package store runs they still won't turn.

It's like those freestyle trucks that have no kingpin

When I started skating I didnt know any better and bought a pair of krux. Liked them and got another pair later on. On the third pair the shop didn´t have krux so I got Indys and rode them ever since. Earlier this year I thought I ll try some krux again for nostalgias sake. First session was harsh, but after three sessions I was absolutely used to them. They carve less but give more stability. I kept my old pair of Indys in case I couldn´t deal with the krux at all but didn´t need them. My impression is they are by far not as bad as you all are making them seem. Obviously I can´t speak for other truck brands but if you take a little time you can adapt to everything.

Stole yourbreakfast's style on this...…..

Indy 126, 129, 139, 149, 159, 169:
Pros
- Best turn
- Grinding feels good
- familiarity after years
- great for mini ramp/ vert / tranny etc

Cons
- feel heavy on flip tricks sometimes / somewhat
- occasional ghost pop / floaty flip tricks (as in, not feeling as "snapped")
- Stage 8 kingpins broke on me 3 times, Stage 9 were the worst
- board always veers to the right on its own (bushings)

Venture Lo 5.0/5.25/ featherlights:
Pros
- Stability
- Decent grind
- Snappy flip tricks
- quick pop response (eh, see above)
- great return to center
Cons
- Not the best turn/carve (but also, I've skated Indys most of my life so it's just different)
- Did not last as long as Indys, as far as grinding and so forth

Thunder Hi 147, Lo 145:
Pros
- Feels carvy but stable at the same time
- Decent grind
- Quick pop flip tricks (this took me a while to get used to after Indys)
- Great return to center

Cons
- Over-carving sometimes on turns made me feel like board was twitchy
- Sorta feel "too light" sometimes (Again, mostly been an Indy rider so yeah)
- Not actually a fan of how the hangars look, not really a con, just my opinion

Trucks I tried for very short periods of time:
Tensor (2003, was fanning out on Mullen at the time) w/ slider plate (Only used for maybe 2 weeks?)
Pros:
- Grind actually pretty decent
- Felt stable on some flip tricks

Cons
- Could not turn. Legit stepped off board trying to carve multiple times

Royal (whatever trucks they had in 99,00. Tried because it was Mariano and Rudy so wanted to support them, 2 weeks max)
Pros
- Light
- Decent pop response
- average turn

Cons
- Felt like cheap quality / soft/ junk to me
- baseplates holes widened within a week

Destructo (also 1999 realm, I wanted to like these but I just did not)
Pros
- Light
- okay turn
- decent grind

Cons
- baseplate holes widened quickly
- just felt... not how I wanted trucks to feel?

Also I had a friend that I am pretty sure purposely only used trucks that I would not.
Dude had Orions, Titan Ti-Lites, Krux and Monster.
He was so psyched on those Orions (because Kareem was on the team) and kingpin broke on like day #2)
Monster felt like a poor man's Indy when I tried it out.

Oh yeah and he had Furys too.

My brother recently revealed to me that he likes/ prefers and indeed fucks with krux. I couldn't believe it like didn't fairmans have real trucks? He was like yea so I got the krux. Un fuckin believable. Like there's the big 3, well four now cause of ace, and I would assume that's for good reason.

I haven’t skated anything but venture in more than 2 years and I never get why everyone says they don’t turn. I can literally turn 90 degrees without lifting. That’s been my experience at least. For me they just feel right and look the best IMO

starting from worst to best

plastic trucks from my first toy complete which had a licensed caballero graphic

pros:
-they were orange i thought this was cool when i was 5 years old
-they had good sliding ability and flex

cons:
-complete garbage trucks

gullwing

pros:
-they had gangster metallic colors

cons:
-complete garbage trucks that didn't grind or turn
-made a terrible squiggle noise that 12 year old me had no clue how to fix

hurricane

pros:
-pretty light

cons:
-no turn and grinded like shit

monster

pros:
-cool demon eyes on hangar
-trainwreck and i think heath rode for them at the time

cons:
-probably didn't turn. i used to be a kingpin cranker until i skated again after a 3-year hiatus

desctructo

pros:
-all around decent trucks
-a bit lighter than indy but similar hangar look, idc about this but it felt like it

cons:
-not a lively turn, but can be made better with bushings of choice

next one is a tie between all these, they are all good for what they are, i wouldn't say any truck is better

indy

pros:
-classic hanger look
-has a bit of beef on the hanger
-material seems good
-turns smooth, but quick
-lasts long

cons:
-a bit bulky
-noticeably heavier
-bushings break quickly

venture(hi)

pros:
-don't wheelbite as much
-keep tension for tricks like 360 really well, for lack of a better way to explain it
-turn reasonably good(not as good as thunder or indy tho)
-good leverage, makes you pop tricks proper(or make you ghost pop everything in the beginning when you're not used to it)
-feel good when manauling
-lots of metal on hanger

cons:
-not as fun to cruise with, they lack about 5% cruiseability i'd say, as in a little quicker turning
-hanger/mounting hole relations can't really be fixed without changing geo, so no tool fits right
-they grind down much more quickly than indy or thunder, if they had less meat on the hanger this would be a truck you'd need to buy two pairs of each year. i usually rode my indys for 1-2 years depending on what sort of spots i skated at the time. that makes ventures pretty expensive actually.

thunder

pros:
-very agile and reactive, high amount of control
-easy pop, low center of gravity gives good control over flips and shuvs
-good materials, seem a notch better than ventures, but i don't know this, it just looks more premium, i could be wrong tho
-pretty light

cons:
-they look boring/kinda unidentifiable and skinny, like some no name truck actually
-odd baseplate has been mentioned already
-for me the kingpin used to break a lot and was always crazy hard to get out, so much so i actually just bought a new set once after even the shop couldn't get out the baseplate.
-it's been a while since i rode them but the grind felt kind of dry and chalky. compared to ventures that feel like they get straight stripped off metal or indys that are basically the benchmark imo, right amount between melt and chunk so to speak. so grinding is not as fun
-weird pinch on k-grinds and smith grinds for me, like the wheel locks up more on angled or pinched grinds
-i never had more wheelbite with any truck, there is like no resistance or real rebound to them when worn in and all my pairs developed weird grooves that made them straye to one side or the other. this is not as bad in indys and for me non existent in ventures. i don't know if this is a geo or bushing issue but it's a lot worse in thunders than in the others.

GD complete. Darby's board since we're talking cab knocks.

Pros

Kids can turn on them.

Bushings tech that seems better than the industry standard 😅

They don't freeze in the cold it seems.

Trucks can get as loose as you want your hangers not going to fall off.

Turn like an ace with a cut top bushing.

Cons

Ugly

Will definitely warp or bend under the weight of anyone older than 7 or 8

Heavy

They don't grind

The kids have become addicted to ulta loose trucks and can't turn on anything else.

Bushings don't fit other grown people trucks.

Same stuff as above but these grind a little.
Plz stop killing each other

I sold a set of furys in 6th grade to this rich ass goth kid, nice dude ne bought me lunch mad times, but sold him these jawns for like 60 bucks. I kinda wish I stil had em.

He wouldn’t be my brother anymore.
Ha. Tell me about it. Krux on a baker deck. He's just awful.
Whoa. Danger.

THUNDER STANDARD:
pros
-responsive, quick turn
-nice pinch on crooks
-grind smooth/quickly while not disintegrating
cons
-turn is too 'twitchy' for some
-baseplate pushed in (wheels stick on nose/tailslides)
-prone to wheelbite especially with over 53mm wheels

THEEVE TIKING:
pros
-noticeably lightweight
-responsive pop
-wheels don't stick on slide tricks
cons
-hard to lose the 'unbroken truck' feel without modifying bushings
-felt unstable on 5-0s (for me)
-turn feels like it 'maxes out' fairly quickly
y’all not fuckin with what i’m fuckin with
