I typically don't pay much mind to the whole YouTube skate thing because I mainly view it as something targeted toward kids. But it's weird how much they seem to want it both ways. They wanna go against the grain of "traditional" skate content and fish for views with clickbait-y titles and gimmicky premises, then they act shocked when those traditional avenues don't embrace them. They declare themselves "pro" without a quarter of the work and talent then they expect actual professionals to consider them equals in an industry they're actively isolating themselves from. They're selling pricepoint hardgoods in an already oversaturated market to compete with real brands, and then they're surprised when a media conglomerate that heavily relies on those real brands doesn't include them in the mix as if they're somehow entitled to be. Like I said, I'm not very concerned about their content. If they wanna cater themselves to 12 year olds and cut corners for attention, fine. Get that YouTube money. But you don't get to have it both ways.

I listened to the entire video (for whatever reason - maybe seasonal depression or morbid curiosity). The general lack of awareness on John Hill's part is pretty interesting - i.e., being subtly offended that Thrasher would want to know sponsors a skater is affiliated with before posting their content. Skateboarding is so multi-faceted and I think the division between which platform display which brands/riders will grow more and more apparent. I don't think there's anything wrong wit that and, if anything, will help the John Hills, John Cardiels and John Shanahanz thrive in their own space.

Dude is so desperate for attention that he made a reaction video to BA's coming out video. I never understood how reaction videos became so popular but this one takes the cake.

I made it thru 6 seconds, laughed my ass off, and shut it off. Dear lord what an intro:

I really expected to hate this but it turned out to be a really non-inciteful bit of whinge.  I do feel a little dumber having watched it but if you like braille shit then it seems like a natural next move.  Thrasher doesn't want your "we are the world" skate videos and you don't need to advertise of thrasher.  So... whatever then!  There's probably $100 billion to be made by being the fisher price of skate media companies.  Why would anyone complain about that opportunity..?

The youtube skate world is like christian netflix. I don't know how these people don't see why theyre not accepted into mainstream skating. Thrasher is willing to give voice to sub cultures (skate witches, unity, etc) but not youtube kooks because no matter how you slice it, filming your daily vlog for the millionth time in a row, putting your mug making a quirky face on your vomit layout thumbnail, and click batey titles will never be that interesting.

if this video is accurate....
thrasher is willing to advertise for international mega-corp. and a mall knife company. but a skateboarder who made his money in skateboarding and is trying to put it back into skateboarding is a no go.

makes total hellride.
all jokes aside, for everyone saying it's dumb for him to whine about "not being allowed in the mag," it does make sense for hill to want to buy his brand an ad in thrasher. it's just another thing off the checklist, and it would be for anyone who wants themselves or their brand to "make it" in skating.

the fact that he has his own competing platforms is almost beside the point. SB and tons of other brands have "their own platforms" on YT and IG etc. and still get in the mag.

they should just take the money and look the other way, that would be extra hellride.

Doubt he cares how lame his schtick is. As long as he gets 12-year olds to subscribe to his YouTube channel, watch his videos, and wear his lame ass clothing brand, he's getting paid and that's all that matters.

It's the YouTube influence formula. YouTube preview images that have a bright, colorful background, bold type, and their face (for recognition). They react and make content about the lamest shit, because numbers is the name of the game. The more numbers, the more ad revenue they get.

Never seen a video, don't plan to, and I can already guess he's in the same realm as that Spenser Nuzzi fella. I imagine they're not far off. Funny how these type of guys can be spotted right off the bat with a few posts on whatever they are posting to.

Any mention of youtubers on this forum should be instant and permanent ban from mods, this guy especially.

It's insane this morons start their own garbage companies turn themselves pro, film parts full of skatepark footage and then expect Thrasher or any legit media or sponsors to support them.

great earlier points from pizzafliptofakie & twist.

It looks like it got taken down, but I remember Dale Decker made a video right when Dylan Rieder passed away and it was labeled as a tribute, but most of it was just a typical day in the life/skate vlog and then there was a minute or so at the end where he made his passing to be about himself.

Holden Morse (www.instagram.com/holdenmorse) started tagging his Instagram videos with #dylanrieder to get views within days after Dylan passed away. Not sure if any of the videos are still up now.

Never heard of this guy (lucky me) and I was sad because is not JONAH HILL.
Like I saw in this video there´s a lot of youtubers like this that call themselves pro and post content for another audience (not slap posters).

I know people can make a lot off money off youtube and cool for them, If you have that fan base, views, etc, why would you are dying to be in that "antique magazine". Just shut up and be happy because you´re doing money off skateboarding without actually ¨making it"  in the industry, be grateful.

This new type of youtube brands and content that those guys do is not my cup of tea, but they have their audience, and followers, and maybe them, don´t really care about thrasher, this forum or stuff people here like, its ok. That stuff like the olympics make the skate for different type of people, that´s ok, is diversity, but don´t act like you don´t care the older way of promote skate and start crying because you´re not in thrasher.

Like someone said it, it´s funny this guys call "conecctions" in the industry to all his youtuber friends.

2 more things:

- I´m not thrasher, but if in your Ad I see that park footy obviusly is a no no for you.

- Thrasher commented on the video inviting him to go back to double rock, LOL
