Since we're going into the nitty gritty I'm going to say Miguel Sanchez is my favorite 1 episode character. I sure hope he got his bird cage, 1 popsicle and $8 for the whole night of babysitting he did.

Haha! Lionel Hutz aka Miguel Sanchez aka Dr Nguyen Van Phuoc is no doubt my favourite character, every line is gold. “Mr Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film The Neverending Story”. Seeing him holding that belt of scotch in Armin Tamzarian’s sig makes me laugh every time, I love this thread haha

Jerkass Homer in general gets too much hate.

Those episodes during that time are definitely way more “cartoony”, and weren’t the best, but there were some gems in there.

I stopped buying the DVDs after season 15. I think that the earlier seasons have more depth to their stories and humor and thus hold up better to rewatching, but I agree that up to about 15 and 16, most episodes are still pretty good, just not "classics".

Edit: Also, the clip you posted is great. Albert Brooks is probably the most underrated recurring guest voice actor on the show

Non-sequitur, but here is (maybe) my favorite early era Homer scene.

Hahaha, from Kent's question to "Uhh, my director is telling me not to talk you anymore" - gold. And I love that Homer scream sample - you'll notice that exact sample used pretty frequently in the early seasons, which is hilarious. They knew how good that exact scream was and pasted into a bunch of scenes, hahaha.

It’s definitely good longer than most claim. But even a few years ago, after dropping off from watching it, I caught some of the episodes from the 20s seasons when FXX was doing one of their “every single episode” marathons and thought they were really good. Maybe not classic level but still well above what a lot of other shows were / are doing.

They still average solid viewership in today’s TV market (as much as that has changed throughout their run) so they must be doing something right.

The now deleted from Disney+ Micheal Jackson episode with the Agoraphobic Man is a good scene. The last part where Homer mutters “pfft baby” always cracks me up!
