No one going to mention BA? He’s always been sick but the year Welcome to Hell came out was probably his best year. I’m not trying to take away from his later years but BA in WTH was insane

David Gonzalez. Like wtf. That was the hardest thrasher has ever kooked it.
Needless to say that the fact that Guy never got it is criminal. They wouldn’t even give him a lifetime achievement one the way they did with AVE.
I think it’s safe to say that thrasher is probably the kookiest mag out there. Ban me.

that was David’s best year easily!

Grant. His skating was better in any of the 3-5 subsequent years after he won.

(And Busenitz should have gotten it in 2011)
[close]

What did Busenitz do in 2011?
[close]
Last part in Since Day One, won Tampa Pro, a bunch of Adidas footage

The run at Tampa alone should of won SOTY

Also, David Gonzalez was a terrible pick. All I can tell you about this dude is that he has a fetish for rock and roll and he sticks his tongue out a lot. Couldn't tell you anything about his skating.

Jerry should have gotten it. And for good measure, fuck Emerica for dropping him.

Wasnt Fully Flared released the same year? I remember buying them together, I dont know if Jerrys part was pre Youtube but I cant really say its influence was visible until a few years after, just like all good art?

This is Ishod yesterday, he’s only getting better. He could’ve taken it for that Return of the Mack part or any other year.

Reynolds has had better years than 98.

Fully Flared didn't come out until a few Years Later in 2009, Jerry was well into his scenes by then & had already switched from Osiris to Emerica

Bag Of Suck and Fully Flared were released almost two years apart. Bag Of Suck was released in March of 2006 and Fully Flared was in mid-November of 2007

Arguably all of them.

Seconding Busenitz over Grant Taylor in 2011, but they still fucked up even harder when they gave D Way and Cole their second years. Or David Gonzales, he’s a fuckin’ kook.

Shit, SBN continues to prove time and time again that he fucking rips at everything. He was the standout that year and I'm glad he got picked. It also showed you didn't have to be the biggest name to get it. You just had to skate at that level.

The idea that he ripped the hardest that year or any year is laughable

he’s a perfectly adequate skater

should be nowhere near SOTY, just like Daveed

I would’ve loved to see Jerry win that year but being up against someone like Daewon is tough.

As someone who isn’t a huge SBN fan I actually like that he won because he’s one of the very few winners out of Thrasher’s comfort zone. I don’t even know what he did that year but I’ll pretend it was for his Away Days part, which was the highlight of that video and no one has ever mentioned it since the month it was released.

Tom Penny’s best year was definitely his SOTY year, even though he didn’t win SOTY. The same holds true for Guy.

Tony Hawk in 1990:
Only won sad Del Mar and NSA contests
Vert was dying
On his first and his shortest marriage to date
looked like a woman

Tony Hawk in 1998/1999
Did 900
Won the Xgames
Won Vans Triple Crown
Birdhouse The End  came out
Tony Hawk Pro Skater Came Out
On his second and longest marriage to date
Looked like an alpha male

I'll let you decide.

I think he looked cooler in 1990.

Daewon should have won the year prior for Skatemore and Jerry should have won the year he won.

Koston could have won any year he dropped a major part from Falling down to yeah right. Same probably applies to Reynolds from The End to Stay Gold. Personally I though Stay Gold Reynolds was peak Reynolds and Yeah Right Koston was his peak. This probably also applies to Daewon and it will probably apply to Ishod.

Scorsese's Taxi Driver not even being nominated for Best Picture yet The Departed, one of his least distinguished films, taking home the Oscar in 2006. Thrasher blowing it hard. Bunch of kooks.
