pitchfork kids unappreciation
« on: April 22, 2007, 09:40:24 AM »
im tired of fucking kids checking that site and then creaming there pants about every new band that gets posted on there. "omg clap your hands say yeah is so last second, swan lake is like my new fav". some of them are good, but are all of them honestly "amazing"? i think peter bjorn and john is the only one i can listen to without getting bored of it after 10 or so plays
You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N.

yeah i recently got a ride to a clipse show with this dude who seriously had every album pitchfork ever gave over a 9 to, like joanna newsom, junior boys, clipse...his stereo was so busted though, like the equalizer was so fucked and it honestly seemed like he just started listening to music and pitchfork was his intro course...it's cool that people are listening to good things, like the new panda bear and deerhunter records are excellent and sometimes pitchfork is right but it's not like there aren't a million other better sources for reading about new music...i mean there's nothing wrong with keeping up with music but come on...

basically i think a lot of these people never gave a thought to indie rock when they were younger and now that it's the hot shit thanks to myspace or the oc or the internet or whatever they think they know what they're talking about.

also i will never trust an opinion on rap music from people who called rick ross- hustlin "ironic". fuck. off.

skimmed it...horrid...then thought "why am i taking pitchfork's advice concerning devin" it's not like i need someone to poorly describe his music for me...it is what it is and he's not someone who changes up his style. their reviews are so wordy and you can tell it's such bullshit, it's like the writers aren't interested in music. actually, i think this is a general trend in today's society. oversaturation= boringness. or something.

i don't usually read pitchfork's reviews, but i happened to read that one.  dude thought 'cutcha up' was about wanting to bone an underage girl.  tom breihan probably doesn't even know what weed is.

of course most of the music is bad
and they only get it right 25% of the time at best.
this is the nature of music journalism.
but does the writing have to be so bad?
that's my main objection-
write about the music, not yourself, fuckhead.

I like reading the pitchfork disses on bands I like, often the things the reviewer complains about will give me clues that I will like the CD.

I think the funniest thing about that site is that they try and seem like they are objective when they clearly aren't.

I think Pitchfork does a good job with their niche, I wouldn't expect them to like everything I like, but if I am looking for some new "indy" (hate the term but best describes it) music they normally get it right.

definitely, but I just don't get why they waste time reviewing non-indy CDs just to try and seem credible. Although, I always end up reading their disses.
