Also Braydons tattoos are way worse and he hasn’t even done an apprenticeship, just picked up a gun and decided that he does tattoos now. That is the most frowned upon thing in that industry, you gotta do your time at the bottom man and can’t be doing home jobs cutting out the shops. Same as not supporting a local skate shop.

What if your tattoos have dope graphics done by your homie, can you tattoo out of your trunk in the parking lot?
Andy Anderson, I cannot sanction your buffoonery.

The designs are fine, that dog is HUGE for where it is, could have been way smaller.

I dunno…. If I was a techy, capable pro like him I would focus on that gift. Tattooing is too serious to be a hobby, and the way he's doing it is offensive to the craft. Everyone wants to be a tattooer and it's messing things up for the people who actually made it their career. Back off, lil fella.

Dressen did it right, though, for the record.
The '80s were the worst period. You had these horrible pop bands growing their hair and calling themselves metal.

It's funny how people tend to be so sensitive about tatoos, yet most of them look like crap.

for the record; i have also seen worse tattoos. anyone who picks up a machine from amazon and starts blasting their friends is an idiot. braydon, nuge, all of them: idiots.

however, the notion that he’s not being paid is strange to me. i’ve been tattooed by a few apprentices at a few different shops and had to pay for all of them. whether or not the shop gave them that money is beyond me, maybe i’m unclear on that point.

yes, tattooing takes years to get good at, but by the time you’re doing your 50 tattoos i’d expect someone to be cranking out better pieces than this.

tyler seems to have a really good grasp on color theory. especially on his paintings: but even his paintings have shoddy line work.

i didn’t mean for this thread to come off as negative as it does. i’m not going to delete it bc i think there could be some good conversation, but my first post makes me sound like an asshole, and i feel bad about that.

i agree that dude will probably get better in time, my qualm is that dude should probably wait awhile before tattooing other people’s skin.

dressen’s tattoos are very proper, zero arguments there.

if he wants to fill up his skin with crappy tattoos, who are you to say that he cant? its his body, you dont own him. side note: i think tattoos are a huge waste of money and nothing more than an investment with no return. i wish i realized that before i got my tattoos because now i want them removed.

Those are other people he's inking.
It’s not like he’s doing it while they’re unconscious. They agreed to it.

In Tyler’s defense, he is doing right by drawing/painting a ton, getting good tattoos by people he respects, and going thru an apprenticeship. Dude seems truer to the craft than you are getting at. I do think that more time needs to be spent drawing, and that you shouldn’t show your first tattoos (maybe your very first as a “whoa look at this bad shit I did on my journey!?”) The way they’re being presented is where you’ve gotta check yourself. I’m also a firm believer that apprentice tattoos should only be done in spots that aren’t visible with a short sleeved shirt on.

Your second part about how popular tattooing is, is a whole other topic. I agree that there are way too many tattooers and that fucking anyone who thinks it “seems fun and cool” are just tattooers. Again, just like a lot of what I don’t like about the current state of skate, I’m blaming social media & mainly Instagram. Tattoos have become such a fashion accessory, they used to mean something and you had to fucking earn it. I’m almost entirely covered aside from my back, my forearms/Hands, and neck/face area. I can wear a tee shirt and pants and people would only see the tiniest bit of a tattoo. I’m not that way because of “job security” or what GenPop would think of me, I just don’t know if I’ve earned it yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways, back to Tyler quick...I think he’s got a long way to go, but could be a decent tattooer. This dude who used to be a pro snowboarder Nick Dirks is a tattooer now, he did it the “right” way and his tattoos are great now, but man were some of his first tattoos shitty.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like his skating just fine, but I too would get a tattoo from him. Especially if he’d do one of those crappy cat-dragon things & put a joint in its mouth.
Or maybe I could get him to do a rendition of PD Eastman’s “dog party in a boat” tile from GDG.

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me.  You think you got me?

I was under the impression that he's being a kitchen magician. If he's apprenticing cool, but if his mentor backed the size of that piece on top of that knee then he may be with a crappy crew. I dunno, maybe it was a cover up. Would love to see healed pics.

Nothing wrong with trying something new, nothing wrong with drawing and getting tattooed, asking questions. Based on the line work of what he's put out there he shouldn't be on skin right now, and his linework should have already improved a bit if he is working with a serious mentor.

I take care of my curbs.

Eric Dressen and Chris Senn are the only tattoo slinging skateboarders that can actually do both.  Sorry Tyler, I liked your part in Hallelujah though.

I don’t have any tattoos but I’ve watched a lot of Ink Master. I understand the human flesh is a unique canvas, so does anyone ever tattoo dead people for practice?
I might consider donating my body to tattooing when I die if it could help prevent people from walking around with a mess on them.

I actually like the bird. I wouldn't get it, but I have way worse so I try to think about the tattoo for a considerable amount of time. I always thought why so many skaters have tattoos is because stickers are awesome.

If some pro tattooer was trying to be a pro skater and was doing sketchy kickflips I would say the same thing. Cool to learn, but don't impose on someone else's profession. What really sucks is that in this scenario with Tyler he's hurting people both physically and mentally. Covering that shit up later, laser removal, getting over it sucks. Trust me.

Also, sketchy people will claim they learned on cadavers. Some have, most haven't. You can use synthetic skin, some fruit, and pig skin. It's best to do a few on yourself, on your thighs. Word to the wise, though.... put your stencil on while standing up. If you apply it while sitting down your skin is stretched and the design will shrink essentially once you stand up.

now seems like a weird time to pick up tattooing or to be "building a portfolio" or whatever

I mean were in the middle of Global Pandemic and Bledsoe obviously appreciates sailor Jerry style-esque tattooing and skateboarding won't last forever.

Bledsoe is on his way to another career in 3 to 5 years

While I agree these tats suck, his artwork is pretty sick traditional, and he just started tattooing. Wouldn't be suprised if the tats are as good as his pen art in a year. Either way proper life after skating gig

This isn't bad at all.  From the title, I thought it was going to be way crazier.

If anyone needs their tattoo machine revoked it's gilbert crockett.

Gilbert doesn’t actually tattoo though, does he?  Also, Gilbert’s drawings and paintings look far better than Tyler’s.  Also again, yes it’s bad.

In the same boat as you. Got a handful done over the years and the only way to get around them is wearing longsleeves. Been looking into removal as well.
