So my daily is a 7.75 mellow concave Magenta with thunder hollow light low 145s... I mostly skate flatground, ledges, banks, manual dabbling, and absolutely love this setup as a tool for that type of skating.

I've always skated skinny boards, and i'm looking at trying out a wider 8.25" setup to see how I get on, I ideally still want to be able to skate it like my usual board, but have more confidence to skate bigger stuff, more room for my big feet etc and a bit more stability.

I like a mellow shape generally, and really not a fan of steep kicks now I'm older, as I recently found out on a dwindle deck... the 7.75s I skate are usually 13.8WB and a pretty uniform popsicle nose and tail with medium to mellow kicks.

I'm not the tallest dude (5'9") and fairly light, so thinking I probably want to go with a 14" WB. Most likely the deck will be paired with Thunder 148s as I'm a fan of the 145s.

Sofar I've looked at a few Toy Decks, some Magenta, but they all have 14.25 WB, is that going to feel like a weird huge leap from skating sub 14 all the time?

The best option sofar seems to be a Primitive 8.25", mellow concave, 14" WB, and mellow kicks... it's the Lemos pro deck, not the greatest graphic or a company I particularly vibe with, but i'm happy to support a sick rider.

Any other brands/shapes come to mind?

They're both BBS wood (I think).

Anyway, I don't think you will struggle too much going from a 7.75 to 8.25 if the wheelbase is only 14. First few sessions might feel a bit awkward. I've gone from 8.38 × 14.5WB to 8.25 × 14WB this year and i'm curious about trying a 7.75 myself.

I'll always have a 7.75 setup on the go, so it's not really a one or the other type situation...just want to see what a wider board could do for my skating.

What attracted me to the Primitive deck, is they seem to be one of the few companies that offer wider sizes and mellow shapes in 14" WB...that i've managed to find anyway.

Chocolate have alot of the wider boards with short wb. I got a Kenny Anderson go52 I think that was 8.25×31.75 with a 14 wb and it was real nice. The wood isn't bad at all like people say it is. It still has plenty of life left. I paired it with 5.8 standard venture hi.

Fuck it go 8.5" with similar wheel base. You get a certain kind of confidence with a wider board.

Crail stuff has been pretty hit or miss, a friend bought a stack of 4 and 1/2 of them felt soggy from day 1. We live in the tropics so humidity is a factor, but other board brands are holding up just fine from the same shop.

krooked has 8.125 x 14 x 31.38. definitely less steep nose/tail than hockey and better wood than chocolate.

I'm trying to do the same. I just made the move to a polar 8.75 football shape. Waiting for it to come up. Pretty excited to a)try a football and b)go bigger.
flat spotted 3 times in 2 weeks, other than that awesome wheels

I too prefer the 8.125"-8.25" range with 14" wb. The FA/Hockey 8.18" has a 14" wb. Never ridden one or even seen them in person to verify, but I saw online the other day that Frog's 8.25" boards are 14" wb. Frog is PS Stix, and FA/Hockey used to be PS Stix and then seemingly kept their board shapes/sizes the same when they moved to BBS. I think I saw someone on here complaining about the short wb's on PS boards recently, so that may help guide you on your quest.

Although I just checked a couple other PS pressed brands - Quasi's boards in that range all seem to be 14.25"+, and Wknd doesn't list wb's on their site; so that 'PS Stix boards have short wheelbases' thing isn't necessarily always true.

The FA/Hockey 8.18" is my go-to, but I'm not sure it fits what you're looking for outside of the short wheelbase. I've heard people say they have steep kicks, but I find them kind of medium/average. Wide nose and tail, with almost no taper. Fairly short tail and long nose.

Heroin makes very ridable boards, even if they are all satanists. I have several of their boards. check this one out.

I like looking at Skate park of Tampa's website because they really break down their boards by width, length and WB.

Here's the direct link to the decks by size page.

I'm very into Polar 8.25 X 31.875 X WB 14.125  I realized I don't like boards that are above 32 inches. Riding a Sour solution now 8.25 I'm not into it. It sort of seems water logged.

Not endorsing but tactics too. Also has nose and tail for most decks.

So I actually have a 9.25" Heroin DMODW Raven which I use as a cruiser with the odd cheeky kickflip thrown in... I was surprised how it wasn't stupid hard to flip on, and that's what initially made me consider a wider tech board...I love Heroin decks and being a Brit I feel a little bit patriotic towards their UK roots as well.

I managed to track down an 8.25 G027 Girl 93 til deck, really slim pickings so glad I could find one. Going to pair it with some 148 thunder lights and spitfire bighead 50mm wheels I have kicking around...should be interesting to see how I get on.

Thanks for all the advice, it has been genuinely helpful, Slap really steps up where the shops and brands falter when it comes to real world board specs.
