I bounce back and forth between those two sizes. I'm not too picky about wheelbase but I've become quite a stickler for the nose and tail being big enough. I like companies like Quasi and FA that are doing the real squared noses and tails, but I can deal with it being rounded as long as it's roomy enough like an Anti-Hero or something. I recently set up an 8.25 that was really tapered like a football shape and I couldn't deal with it. The nose and tail felt tiny even though the board itself was still an 8.25.

Same here, prefer bigger fuller shapes for my 8.25/8.38. WB can either be 14.25 or 14.3x. I can't stand tapered/pointy shapes.

Thing is I like 8.3s with both WB, super rare to have 8.3 with shorter WBs tho, on average.

(soz annoying Q's)Been looking at this madness shape board basically since the brand started but never seen one in person. https://www.skatewarehouse.com/Madness_Eye_Dot_Deck/descpage-MDEDDK.html

Anyone had one, thoughts? Does it taper more than it looks? Thunder 149s alright?

Not that one but I have the square 8.37 x 31.6 shape and I hate to admit it's one of my favorite decks in the entire quiver. Mines the mild concave mid kick mold, not sure what that one is. I skate it on Thunder 149 hollows and its perfect. I've been skating it as a wet weather setup for months just to try and kill it and it still feels great.

I jumped back on a (and just ordered another) Santa Cruz 8.28" X 31.83" x 14.19"WB (it's a true 8.28, unlike the DLX 8.25" labeled as an 8.28").

For a short'ish WB board, it doesn't feel like one and as for width, it feels like what you'd expect, a bit larger than an 8.25 but smaller like a true 8.3 (which few make anymore), setup with 149s and it feels great. It sort of fucks with my head because it's right in the middle of my favorite sizes. It's a very full/rounded shape. If you like the '8.28' DLX but feel cramped as I do on it, check the SC out.

Does SC make multiple steepnesses? I think half of what keeps me from branching out to Dwindle wood is shit like that racking my brain when I kinda know what I get with BBS.

They have a couple diff molds but the one I see most commonly in that size is the standard one which is pretty steep. If you mostly skate BBS stuff you'll probably be fine with it. They're epoxy though so there's likely gonna be a bit of an adjustment period just in terms of weight and stiffness/feel. They're not my cup of tea but if you like stiff decks they might be yours. Good luck!

I really liked the Crail G052 minus the wheelbase and it felt/stayed stiff

SC keeps it pretty simple, very consistent med kicks (but a tad steeper than most BBS), mellow-medium concave. Creature is where you find a different concaves from medium to their 'classic' whatever that is supposed to be.

As BFRD mentioned, they are stiffer than a bbs/PS board and have a different feel overall, not as much flex (but they do eventually); pop lasts longer than BB and waaaaay longer than PS; be warned: skating anything else after will feel and sound waterlogged/sogged out.

One thing about DSM/NHS you can count on their dims being 100% consistent board to board/run to run. Without fail. Everytime.

This is my goldilocks 8.28 (It's usually the Henry Gartland shape RIP). They do make an 8.27 with a 14.22 WB, nose and tail are shorter, no idea if it's the same shape).

The 8.28 Henry Gartland SC deck I rode held up really well, 4 weeks of hard skating. More taper to the nose but way less than the Tom Asta Taper Tip. Did feel a bit thinner / more flex than a DSM R7, less aggressive kicks and concave than a DSM R7.

Just setup a R7 8.25 with steep kicks and mellow concave, that's a really nice shape after it get broken in after 3 sessions. The first few sessions were hell on my feet and the pop was impossible to get the timing on.
