IMO board width is less important than wheel base or nose/tail length. I'll ride 8.4-8.6 and adapt but if the trucks are to close together I'll get bummed

Agreed, I pushed around on my friends 8.25 x 31.8 x 14 and it felt great, wide but still nimble. Pairing the right trucks to match your deck size is so important; my first go at 8.25 x 31.9 x 14 i went up to Venture 5.8 (raws & Titaniums) and I could not handle the girth at all.
Did any of you guys ever notice that if you took off the end "er" from his name, moved the "b" to after the "i" and then added an "l" to the "b" that you just moved, you'd spell "Bible"?

If I started a brand Id go with
8.75 flat concave big nose
9.25 footballish egg shape
10.5 shaped kinda like a scram shape I like
All with 14.75 wheelbase
Luckily I dont have to lose a bunch of money starting a brand and can just get these products from various existing brands at my local shop.
[close]

14.75 was my favorite WB for a while, but i kinda like it a little shorter now at 14.3 to 14.5. which is nice, because its way easier to find.

i voted 8.5, for what its worth...

What kind of trucks you use with the smaller wb?

7.875 (Sk8Mafia) or 8.06 (DLX full shape), both with 14.44 wheelbase, length is tiny bit under 32.
Both deck widths seem like they come from same mold just differently cut and shaped by BBS.

8.25
But a lot of people nowadays ride 8.5+, so I'd add a couple more sizes to the poll to get more accurate results.

indys, prefer the cast baseplates. i don't get caught up with changing truck brands, i tried that already.

i only went to a smaller WB cause i got the wrong dims, but i ended up having an easier time on ledges and coping cause i could pivot the board faster. i've tried going shorter since and it just feels whack. up to 14.75 still feels aight though (again with cast indys).

i agree with everyone who doesn't give a shit about width anymore, i've got boards from 8.5 to 10.25 shaped.

anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk about what dimensions i like.

I've been on 8.3s for about a year.  skated 7.5s (and as small as 7.25) in my prime, but now even the 8.3 seems small.  8.3s are getting scarce, so contemplating going up to an 8.5 or down to an 8.25.  I do a lot of flip tricks, and they feel more solid on a wider board.

Size down to 8.25, those 8.5s can change a person.

Is it a specific brand you can't find in 8.3? is it a length/wb issue? Plenty of 8.3s out there.

Also maybe scope the REAL SE 8.25, it's cut more like an 8.3.

8.5, just out together an 8.375 but square shape.
I have the theory that square shapes add 1 more size to the board so it should skate like an 8.5

I don't even know what size board I like. In my head a wider board with steep or flat sounds fun. I'm currently on a 8.25 that I like but idk, I jump sizes a lot.

Can someone please explain why people continue to omit 'Fred Gall' as an option in their polls?

I'm good with 8.25s or 8.5s. 14-14.5 wb. not super picky anymore.

Im running five set ups presently, but the main riders are either 8.5-8.6, or 8.75-8.8, with the exceptions being the 8 cruiser & the 10.5 80s fish.
About 20 years ago I loved me a 7.81, but I cant see my old ass going that narrow ever again unless it was a goof board or a nostalgia thing.

I wanted to give an 8.5 a try, went and bought an Anti-Hero, annnnnd DLX did it to me once again. The sticker says 8.5 x 31.8 x 14.25, board is actually 8.38 x 31.625 x 14.2. Im probably still gonna try it out but i was really disappointed. Almost every DLX brand deck i buy always screw me over except the 8.25 Full SE's.

8.5 x 32.5 with a 14.75 wheelbase. Very, very few companies make this shape or size, but I really love the extra length. Gives me the feeling that I'm more in control.

Currently on a 8.25. I liked the 8.38 for cruising around but not sure I really like longer wheelbases.

been sticking with 8.5 for a few years then recently went back to an 8.25 when the pandemic hit cause boards were harder to get in my area. Dont really mind 8.25 but it just feels like a toothpick. Happy to be back on the 8.5

Currently skating an 8.38 right now. The nose is 7 1/4" and the tail is 6 7/8". I've ridden one like that before and my only problem is that it takes a lot of flick. It's perfect for slides and the mellow concave is great for high trucks and average size wheels, but even going up 1/8 of an inch it feels like a boat. Next time I'll go with a shorter nose and tail with mellow concave.

I find it easier, to be honest. I'm taller than the average skateboarder and that extra length helps with catching.
Having larger than average feet helps as well.
