What do you do with old games/ games you've already beaten
« on: September 07, 2020, 02:40:59 AM »
Seeing people's reactions to all these reissue/remakes has me curious. I've kept every console and game since my very first super Nintendo.  Only game in my life I ever traded in was Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone for the ps1 and  i still regret it. Tell me about yourselves slap

I buy 99.9% of my stuff digitally so I have no choice but to keep it. I used to sell or trade in my games if I got all the achievements and didn’t care about replaying the game or playing multiplayer

Store them, like a normal person?

No, but I swaped very few when I was super broke, the rest is still with me.

The good ones I keep a disc in a CD book.  shit games in trash.  Same approach to digital games, i think i actually end up deleting every game due to my Ps4 running low on disk space.

I've tried to play through and sell most switch games after I've beat them
For earlier consoles, I held on to most of the games so they can collect dust.

I'm a sucker for physical media so I keep everything. Even if it's a game I probably won't play through again it's probably not worth much so it's at least nice to have in the collection.

It depends on how tempted I am to replay in the future after beating them, but I usually end up handing off games to my friends if I think they'll enjoy them while I'm not playing them.

But, when I was younger and broke I would take them to Game X Change and get whatever cash I could. Hindsight, I shouldn't have done that, but it is what it is.

I’ve kept the majority of games I’ve purchased.

There was a phase in college where I flipped a lot of Saturn stuff that would have been worth bank had I kept everything.

I’m now in a weird position though in that I have a few pricey games that I’d rather not part with but they’re basically gathering dust at the moment and I’m thinking more and more about selling them so I can buy leisure stuff I would use more.

I basically just keep everything if I'm not gonna get anything more than $10 for it. When I see people trading in games for just a few dollars or for small fraction of what they paid for it, it makes me sad. Might as well keep it.

I do trade in any rare games or items I may have to estarland. They give a lot of store credit and they're local to me. And I usually only trade in games that I can still play through other means.

I haven’t played any video games in a while but I hated the thought of spending $60 on a game playing it for a month and trading it in for $20 max. Now those games are worth a few dollars at most and I didn’t touch them so I probably should have just traded for $20 then.
My library loans out video games for 3 week periods and for the last few years they would get just about everything so you just had to look everyday and get on the waitlist as soon as something was added to their catalog- usually a couple months before release.

Last game I bought was RDR2 and I played around 200 hrs. of that so I don’t regret spending $60 when you break it down.

I kept every game ever... Nintendo, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS3 etc. for a long time.
I sold all the old Nintendo and genesis stuff (for decent money on eBay) when my son was little to get extra cash.
I've actually kept every skateboarding game I ever owned (minus 720, kept skate or die though).
Even the really weird ones like MTV Skateboarding and X-Games whatever it was called.
Also, my favorite game of all time (not skating wise) was NHL93 and I kept my Genesis NHL93. That game was my jam.

In my experience, it is best to hold on to what you can.  Some games become very valuable later.  Also, gamestop really screws you on payment for games.  That being said, sometimes you need cash so it is what it is.  Seek out selling games personally before giving in to a place such as gamestop.

I delete (when digital) or trade in (when physical) almost every game after I get all (or at least most of) the trophies. The only exceptions are games that I know a friend still wants to try. Besides those I only keep some games I know I revisit from time to time, such as rocket league, skate, diablo 3 and gran turismo.

It's not even just Gamestop, smaller local gaming shops will also try to lowball you as well when it comes to selling or trading in physical media.

I finally sold my entire game collection this summer because I needed the cash but also truthfully I just don't play games as often anymore, it was such a pain dealing with shops that I just sold everything in bundles via Craigslist and LetGo which was way more convenient and profitable.

I've been selling games and consoles on craigslist to strangers since I was 12. Luckily I never got diddled.

lol, you remind me one thing.
When I was moved from my old home to a new one, I left there all my games..
By the way, recently born my 2nd children and its a boy again! It was hard to solve because we are in a foreign country and we don`t even know how we should speak to latins people, but with that translation service  about birth documents and certificates https://thewordpoint.com/services/certified/birth-certificates we did it well!
Learning foreign languages is a huge part of my life, but sometimes I am meeting languages which I don`t know, so the website mentioned by me is a nice one
Hope that my boy will not left all his games in a previous living place.. ;D

Depends on the resale value and whether I'll ever play it again. I have some games (Dark Souls Series, Metal Gear, Bethesda RPGs) that I keep no matter what because I know I'm going to play them again. If it's something I know I'm not going to play again then I'll check resale value, anything under $15 I might as well keep and give away or let a friend borrow it because it's not worth paying fees and shipping on. If I'm really hard up I'll take them to Gamestop when a new game I want comes out or try to sell them in a bundle on Facebook marketplace.

I'm in the process of buying a house so I'm getting rid of a lot of things right now that I normally would've kept but would rather turn into cash now. Did just get a PS5 though but I sold my PS4 Pro for $300 so I didn't feel too bad about buying it.

if it's a gem of an RPG I usually keep it or give it to someone who might appreciate it. I lost a lot of my collection over the years struggling with mental illness and homelessness so I'm grateful now that I'm better and independent Nintendo is porting a lot of classics to Switch. I sold my OG nintendo collection to pay for it and all the games I wanted were on there anyway so it felt more like transference and consolidation than getting rid of anything. I love videogames but as cliche as it sounds I am trying to do more productive things with my time these days. just finished FFvii remake and working on finishing botw and kingdom hearts collection but I just also dont have the same patience and attention span as I used to. it's good to pass some treasures onto the next generation sometime. I think minimalism is a good thing. but dont throw heroes in the trash.

I went back to Oblivion and cried because it is so shitty. I went back to Skyrim and cried because I've done everything at least 4 times and can never recapture the joy of discovering things for the first time.

I still enjoy Warhammer 40K Freeblade on my phone despite beating it a few times.

It's been forever, but I bet R Type is still fun to play.

The only game I'm good at is NBA playgrounds,  ps4
gave a copy to a mate the other day in the hope he may become competitive.

I didn't mention I got a digital copy I'm still playing and will destroy him when it's time.

Im not really a gaming guy, but there was a stage where I was selling nintendo stuff
On at least a weekly basis.   Mainly game cube and 64,

I still buy most of my games on disc, so I just keep them. some games i will replay, Red Dead 2 is one that i beat and then started over a few months after that.

I typically just buy NHL games so every year i buy one and the year prior i just let collect dust instead of trading it in for $5.

i play on pc, but i still have some physical copies of old games for pc as well as console, but nowadays i am fully digital with my games. usually try to get them on gog.com so i still kind of own them instead of basically buying a user's license.

downside is you can't get rid of games that turn out to be bad by selling them to someone else and you can't just pop in a disc and play. have to download everything first, which can be a bummer when a game is mad big like destiny 2. upside is it doesn't take up space in my room.

Well when I was a kid I never thought long term and so my game discs would never go back in a case. You know the routine. Flip it upside down and set it on the tv stand for months. We had a Nintendo forever and I chucked it along with some games, wish I didn’t do that now, but it wasn’t anything rare. Just good memories. The Nintendo was pretty much done and at that point I couldn’t fix it.

I guess it would depend on the age and the game. MGS2, I took care of that disc and beat it about 15 times. Recently got a rom of it and beat it again. As I’m typing this I’ll probably do it again lol. I’d like to participate in extra life this year, that would be cool.

Except for the games I find myself going back to from time to time, I typically sell the game once I've played through it a few times.

Kept pretty much everything still have a bunch of boxes and instruction manuals too but. Did trade in like a shoebox full of Wii games for fuck all money but kept all the best stuff.
Got a PS1 but no games. Don't know where they all went, will still probably tear my place apart looking for them about every two years. Anyone know if there's any reason to not rebuy a bunch of ps1 games now?

I totally understand where you're coming from with old games and games you've already beaten. I tend to hold onto them because they hold a lot of memories and emotions for me. I remember the feeling of excitement when I first started playing, the thrill of finally beating a difficult level, and the satisfaction of earning all the achievements. Even though I may not play them again, they hold a special place in my heart.

Games i played as a kid were donated or sold in a garage sale 10+years ago. I had a PS4 from 2014- 2021 and sold all the games with the console when I was saving up to buy a series x. Nowadays, I only buy a disc if I’ve already played the game and established it in my top 10 of all time. So basically all of the disks I own are 360 games that work with backwards compatibility. Skate 3, L4D2, GTA4, bioshock, etc. Modern games I digitally download, so I just uninstall when I’m done with them. There’s a section with my full library so I can go back and redownload them at any time with all of my old progress intact.
Pretty sure my dad kept our original PlayStation because he had so much fun playing mortal kombat with my siblings and I growing up. I was too young to remember any of that. By the time I could make memories, he didn’t play videogames anymore.
