One of the greatest to ever do it. But, can't blame a company for cutting a guy who has put out maybe 5 minutes of footage in the past 17 years and doesn't seem to enjoy doing promotional type stuff unlike some of the other aging legends Nike has.

that's not him in the adidas clip but the co-owner

That said, he peaked in Trilogy, 24 years ago.

Fuck Gino n Pops came and went about 10 years ago.

He must have some kind of Jordanesque contract with Nike to still be on the team.

Or maybe his worth to a company is not solely based on how much footage he puts out each year. Dude's a legend and that's the reason you ran to the keyboard at the slightest chance he might be wearing something without a swoosh.

If he's on as an advisory role they'd probably take him off the team and just run him a check for that.

Commenting on a thread about a legendary skater from 20+ years ago doesn't generate them money. I highly doubt most people under 30 will be swayed go buy his shoes or Nike because of him.

Also still waiting on FuckGinoAndPops to run us those shirts

The size of the Gino-appreciating older skater demographic who have quite a bit of buying power shouldn't be underestimated. Gino's status on Nike definitely serves a purpose.

Poets is pretty lame. Some of the products seem really lazy, and I hate how the promo videos just glom other pop culture references. Sometimes in these cases it feels like the person behind them is just boring and latches onto other expressions to create their own.

Gino apparently likes a lot of my favorite movies from when I was a kid. That said, not sure they need to be on a $45 t-shirt.

Gino is literally the only reason SB exists. He completely legitimized Nike in skating.

I'm pretty sure people still hated Nikes until the SB Bruins and Blazer lows came out.

I’m sure that helped but putting together a small team of ‘core’ east coast skaters (easily the hardest demographic to please) with Gino at the forefront made it near impossible to ignore, plus they had the money to keep it alive until it was profitable. Like, no one in their right mind, especially in the early 00’s, was gonna question anything Gino wears/reps.

There og team in the second incarnation (first era was Bam in the 90s) collectively did it. Gino, Barley, BA, Supa, Mulder, who else? The Team Editions that came out were pretty sick. Nike was pretty sick, they had great clips, had that Minor Threat rip off tour/video thing. I think it was pretty split between people who were down for them doing it "right" and people who probably knew better, they were like native americans seeing tall ships on the horizon. However, Nike definitely hurt smaller shops back then because they'd contract them to buy more shoes than they could sell.

Someone correct some of this, I'm rusty.

What's weird and sad(!) is how the skate industry mirrored American politics in a way. We let the major shoe companies come in (Trump) and it totally shifted the landscape. No shoe sponsors mean more than board sponsors, and pros are getting paid less and less. I'm sure this could be expanded on more but I'm gonna move on with my day.

Lol are you guys high? That isn’t Gino, looks like it could be Matt Bell.
At least when you're a washed-out hipster douchebag in NY, you can milk it at some decent looking, hard to skate spots. In LA you're just a tan-lined faggot in a school yard somewhere.
