Mirror Flipping Videos
« on: September 17, 2020, 02:13:54 PM »
Does anyone else use a Mirror Flipper Extension to watch videos, so you can see every skater in the same stance as you? I think Brian Anderson did something similar in his Epicly Later'd where he'd watch videos, with his back to his TV, while looking into a mirror. Being Goofy, it a trip to see Goofy-Footed Reynolds, or Austyn or Lucas. I think it's easier to appreciate and gravitate towards skaters in your stance because it's more relatable. This really changed the way I looked at some Regular-Footed skaters I'd previously kinda brushed over. If you're Regular I imagine watching Regular Footed Mike Carrol, Heath, or Busenitz would be equally mindblowing. Since I started doing this I haven't watched a Regular Footer skate in their actual stance in over 2 years. Here's a link to the one I use for youtube videos on Chrome but I figure every browser has its own version.

I do this, the app I use is youtube video flipper. It is awesome and these fucktards giving you shit for it have simply just not tried it and don't know what they're missing out on. Maybe I'm really stupid, but sometimes if a skater is goofy (I'm regular) I will not fully appreciate when they're doing their switch stance stuff. I recently rewatched an Appleyard part from ages ago and only recently realized a tailslide he did was actually switch.

I tried to do this to a VHS copy of Hokus Pokus in 1990. I was trying to figure out some Hensley tricks but I'm goofy footed, so I wasn't getting it just right. Think it was the kickflip backside grabs. I didn't actually pull one off until 2003. Broke my finger on one and got over that trick ASAP. It was difficult holding this tiny mirror to figure it out.

I'd like to see PJ's wonderful horrible life part mirrored

I actually do this because, being regular and fairly dyslexic, I have a hard time appreciating goofy skating.

I used to make em. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNyKp39-IwwuWkdYSCVVOFg

woah that's weird. already being used to ishod clips and some of these spots, the mirror ended up being more distracting than anything for me. Its usually easier for me to process regular skaters but when a goofy skater is really good it seems easier to process for some reason

Yeah, it's kind of jarring at first. Some work and some are just weird.

Full circle type shit cause my first thought was this guy been on the pipe

Seriously though it probably helps I just fucking fumble through tricks trying to work them out
asking someone or fully analysing a clip is probably way more efficient

Carroll's part in modus was pretty cool, most of the tricks in there seem like they could pass as not mirrored clips.

Haha, i started this exact same thread in 2012: https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=61311.msg1660405#msg1660405

It was pretty quickly morphed into a thread about how to cook meth. Thanks Slap, you've always been there for me

8 years later, I still mirror stuff using the exact same Chrome extension i mentioned there, particularly when i'm trying to learn a trick based on footage of someone who's opposite footed.

depending on where theyre facing you might actually find it easier to use their opposite stance, pro golfers use opposite handed coaches as its easier to mirror what theyre doing

these are fucking rad to watch. thank you!

These are great. Is it lame that I like watching the footage better in my own stance?

No, it makes way more sense. After making a habit of flipping clips, watching someone actually skate regularly for me is unnecessarily awkward and confusing. There were parts I watch for years the normal way, that after flipping I realized had tricks that I missed were switch or nollie.
