Just recently set up a 7.75 as a second setup and honestly didn’t find it to be as difficult to adjust to as I thought it would be.  However, it didn’t really flip significantly easier compared to my normal setup.  I grew up skating only 7.75’s and gradually migrated up to 8.3ish, which I realized is probably too big for me.

I’ve since dropped it back down and am now a 8.12-8.25 guy.  Especially like the 8.12’s currently since they seem to hit a sweet spot of flippability while still having enough real estate to feel comfortable on ledge shit.

And to be completely honest, I’m sure I could get used to skating ledges with a 7.75 in a week or two if I really wanted to.

I can’t imagine anyone gives a shit about anything I just wrote but it felt nice to type out.  Shalom.
I hung on to every word like my life depended on it. Thank you for sharing.

I grew up skating 7.5s exclusively in the early 00s, started skating again this year and sized up to 7.75 as the deck choice in 7.5s was pretty non existent.

After a couple of months of getting my legs back I was finding everything just flipping too fast or too much... I figured I would give an 8.25" a go... flip tricks weren't any harder, they just flipped a little slower and were a lot easier to catch...and there's a lot more margin for error with catching tricks, which at 35 years old and a bit fragile, I appreciate.

I'm a 5'8" tall guy, light at 147lbs ish, but i do have disproportionately big size US11/11.5 feet, and having the extra room on the board compared to a 7.75 is a god send.

All that said, skinny boards do feel like home to me, and throwing fast tight flips on them is fun. I'm currently seeing if I can get the best of all worlds, and setting up an 8" on venture lows.

If anyone is after a deck recommend, the Magenta 7.75 decks skate really, really nice.. Mellow to medium concave, not too steep, and a 14" WB, I've had my best sessions this year on that deck.

I absolutely think with more of us nostalgic 30-somethings coming back to skating, there needs to be a bit more choice in the sub 8" deck range... aside from Magenta, I haven't really come across a brand which supports these sizes adequately from logo decks up to pro.

Oh, and start making small wheels a thing again too!

From the set-up thread

Fat Bundts JUST arrived, took the spits of I was going to use, and this thing is finally done.

Can’t really try it out today because of the rain. Was nervous about the hi’s, but just popped an Ollie in the apartment and it felt surprisingly good.

5boro 7.75
Venture 5.2 hi’s
Boardy Cakes Fat Bundts 44mm
Jessup
Cheapshots

I've just got a pair of Tensor mag light high 5.0s back through a warranty return...I was going to flip them but this thread is making me want to keep hold of them and slap a 7.5" together haha.

That DOA looks like a fun time Richard. That 5Boro too os89.

My x-post from set up thread:

Set this up just for fun and to switch things up, but I’m starting to think I’m getting stuck on the 7.75/Venture Lows. Usually an 8.5/Indy guy.

Traffic Hiroki 7.75

I’m surprised you are able to pull off 53mm with lows.

They’re probably worn 1-2mm by now, very manageable. And that pic is pre-bushing tinkering. Nut is slightly lower and will continue to get lower the way Bones bushings sink.

I’m enjoying them now way more than I remember. I used to hate their shit turn and lack of kingpin clearance, but bushing swap fixed the turn and I don’t mind grinding down kingpin.

*and I don’t have any DLX venture lows to compare em to

R7 7.75 x 31.1 x 13.88.
Independent 129 forged hollows
52 f4 classics
Modus bearings
Diamond

And oh no and independent sticker :o

You guys got me tempted to set something with these old ass 5.0 venture lows I have from 2005ish
The hangers on these were originally yellow when I was given them in 07
I think they were a colorway for slaps favorite guy Brandon Biebel haha..

I stripped em raw a few years back..

Don’t know if this matters to you, but I wonder if hitting those bad boys with some steel wool might polish them up and make them a little shinier.

been skating 7.7-7.8 my whole life and i need a safe space. its been really hard to find decks my size where i live and ive been thinking of switching it up to 8 but i know the wheelbase is going to fuck me up unless i find one with a shorter one.
im 60kg, 170cm and size 7.5 shoes, im not a big guy and every time i tried a board with a longer wheelbase i felt lost, i usually skate flatground, manuals and ledges and i felt like i couldnt skate even with the smallest change in my wheel base.
i have a feeling wider trucks would feel better but the wheelbase change is fucking with my head

Thanks to @JB77 I am now the proud owner of some Venture 5.0 highs. Once this 7.75 green eagle AH comes in I’ll be good to go. Nervous about the shape, I haven’t ordered a deck since... 2001? (Green rising sun muska out of a CCS catalog lol.) I’m crazy about shapes but I guess 7.75ers have less to choose from these days.

Glad to know they got there safely!  Enjoy.

Are 7.875 decks welcome here? Been eyeing some Mystery P2 decks on clearance but they are listed as 7.875. I think I could manage the drop in width by 1/8" but I'm not sure about the length and WB. Zumiez has them listed as 7.875 x 32 x 14 which looks good to me. Anyone know if the dimensions are accurate?

Yeah it’s ps, supposedly the same mold was used for a lot of early girl stuff. Which would make it very rad.

Was under the impression that the New Deal 7.5" was Dwindle but using the era-authentic mold from PS. I believe it was discussed on the nine club that due to some kind of licensing thing all those boards are DSM with input from Paul.

My memory is bad, but I thought the wtf stuff was ps, and the reissue stuff was dsm. But....memory is bad.
That 9club was interesting but it’s like 3–18 hours long
