How many Pros do you think would be happy with a part similar to PJWHL trick by trick today? (Assuming PJ's part never existed)

It's not just that some of us grew up watching it at the right time, that part stood the test of time and I believe it would be a great part if it got released today. Almost 2 decades after it was filmed. Insane.

2nd vote would be for PJ. sometimes it is a fine command of the english language to say nothing and he extended that to skating. PJ's plan B part is the emperor's new clothes.

This is such a good analysis of this part.  You’re right... trick for trick it stands the test of time and any current pro would be stoked to drop it today.

Though, I think the same could be said for Kirchart’s Mind Field part.

It appears there is a real consensus forming around PJLWHL.  Didn’t see that coming, but it totally makes sense.  That part deserves every bit of praise it’s getting in this thread.

^ I think it’s greatness also has to do with the fact that it was for a shop video by a relative unknown. Reynolds in Stay Gold is the exact opposite in that respect, a blockbuster production starring an established superstar. I love Andrews part but I guess PJ’s part catches more authentically what skateboarding is like for most skaters, while also being insanely advanced on the tricks. PJ squared the circle with this one.

Easily JJ's mindfield part.

Unpopular opinion, this lost footage youtube part of Jake Rupp is the best video part ever made.

Also, Mike Daher's a visual sound part.

I've got a lot of favorite video parts from Natas Streets On Fire to Public Domain Rubber Boys, Ban This Barbee, Ed in 1281 to Lotti in Now n Later to Stranger Skypager to Jason Adams Label Kills to Cardiel Sight Unseen to Drehobl Free Your Mind to Arto Sorry to Grant Mind Field etc. and a lot of them for different reasons.

But if I had to choose one that's the absolute best representation of skateboarding in film, it's Gonz in Video Days.

Second I'd say Tent City as a whole.

The skating is flawless, the nostalgia factor, the music, the edit. Masterpiece.

I’d be hard-pressed to disagree.

Plus it pretty much ushered in/pioneered/created a whole new genre of skating, the single part videos.

I love how he airs over the lamppost in the background on both of the first tricks in that part

One of these would be my choice however. Probably the former

Its Arto.  Heath and reynolds tied for 2nd.   Dylan. PJWHL tied at 3rd

Wow I feel like a fucking dumbass bc I left off Hsu bag of suck. I'm updating a bit after thinking

1. Arto sorry
2. Hsu Bag of Suck
3. Reynolds stay gold
4. Dylan
5 heath mindfield and pjwhl
where is home?

That Burke part is nice, for sure.

With so many of these clips being from 10 and 20 years ago, it makes me wonder which parts from 2019-2020 we’ll still be talking about in another decade or two?

Who’s parts from today will be influencing the next generation of skateboarders?

The Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood song fits so perfectly. Always loved this part.

Yeah, great example of how song selection can really elevate an already great part.  Conversely, I’ve seen a lot of song choices ruin what could’ve been a classic clip.

Nick Trapasso in Suffer the Joy is quite the perfect mix of skating, style, music selection, and he was kinda unknown.  Does some tricks that to this day would be hard for anyone.

That one plus every single one that's already been listed.

This wasn't my top pick but I feel that this part should definitely be somewhere in the conversation:

Suciu is hands down my favorite skater, so I'm biased, but his 3 multi-song parts (Cross Continental, Search the Horizon, Verso), should all be in the conversation. I'm pretty sure he'll be adding a fourth part to that list soon because he seems to have gotten even better since Verso and he's been filming a ton.
