Best music from your state
« on: September 25, 2020, 01:37:36 PM »
Texas - here’s my hip hop and hardcore selections from the lone star state. Narrowing it down to just two selections is fucking difficult.

Mammoth Grinder - it was tough choosing between power trip, big boys, the dicks, DRI, and Iron Age but I felt like Mammoth Grinder was the perfect selection due to their discography, live shows and most consistent output.

Maxo Kream - I think he is one of the most promising rappers I’ve heard in the last 20 years, and he reps Houston hard as fuck. Tough not going with geto boys, but had to look towards the future with Maxo.

Well I have like 9 Andy Anderson dated flight decks.

AZ is a tough state! I’m sure I’m missing some but off the top of my head there’s JFA, Sun City Girls, and the meat puppets, yeah?

This is a fucking solid list. What part of Texas are you in?

I had a hard time not including Gary Clark jr. or Leon bridges. I had an equally hard time choosing between willie and waylon, and ultimately decided to not include them, despite how much I love outlaw country.

I would say Texas probably has the greatest quality of music production of all the other states... at least specific to rock and roll.  Country, Blues, Rockabilly, Soul, Punk (the best punk scene!), Weird-ass Punk.. there's no state even close.

I'm from California so this is what I can come up with:

50's

60's

70's

80's

90's

I was born and raised in San Pedro, but currently live in Austin. But I see you had a really solid California list and I had to add it.

Yeah there's a lot of great stuff out of California... it's hard because I try to just keep it to my favorite bands, but you can't deny the greatness of stuff like Metallica 'Kill 'Em All', Slayer 'Reign In Blood', Exodus 'Bonded by Blood', and other great punk/rock 'n' roll bands like X, Flesheaters, Christian Death, etc..
