Paul Rodriguez - an incredible amount of talent but I can't think of one trick he's ever done where I thought "Wow, only Paul would have done that." He's done all kinds of impressive things, but all of them are v cookie cutter.

Skateboarding is one of those paradoxical things where at a certain level of technical proficiency you can cross some threshold and become "boring". This is due to the seeming absence the things that make it interesting, most notably difficulty and dangerous-ness. When there is no struggle, no tension, no effort it can become too mechanical, cold, or dry. This is where style becomes most essential and is often most absent. Boringness can also be counteracted by spot selection. If it is gnarly or novel it won't be boring. Interesting garments can also help.

i agree with all of this. when that asian looking guy in the new noah video ollied that 10 stair and looked back at it and you saw that he just pushed himself to do something he never imagined to be able to do, that was so sick.
