Coming up to summer where I live and I can't find a good pair - any recommendations from the northern summer?

Swimmable is a big plus

I swear by these...can't wear anything else now; literally donated/sold off every pair of shorts I had and replaced them with these; Volcom does great sales.

Light, breathable and swimmable.

I run these: https://www.champion.com/long-mesh-shorts-with-pockets.html
Lots of skate brands use these blanks as well if you want something with a logo

I wear these for swimming, but could suit you for skating/swimming/casual: https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-baggies-longs-7-inch/58034.html?dwvar_58034_color=SNBL&cgid=collections-baggies-mens

So cringe when californians give their companies Finnish names. Talk about cultural appropriation. (just kidding, but not totally kidding)
take what small comfort there may be left
seize what you love and damn all the rest

For swimming, nothing beats Ralph Lauren shorts, seriously. Best looking by far.
Other then that, Polar and Levis baggy jorts are dope
