Which PAL was it?
« on: November 11, 2020, 02:23:42 PM »
While sessioning the Rockridge BART skurbs in Oakland yesterday, I came across a (frequent/regular) chap who paused mid session to set up a new deck. When he returned w/ his new set up, it had an exquisitely rendered grip job featuring a triptych of die cut SLAP angels.
Def did NOT strike me as the sort of thing a rando (read: non SLAP user) would put the effort in on, if you know what I mean. We're talking a good hour of razor blade work, plus another to mount it. A proper labor of love, in other words.
Sooo... My question is: which one of you goons was it? If you out yourself, I'll tell you which one of the lurky-turkeys I was, in case I hadn't made it obvious enough.
Super fun session regardless. Thank you, fellow stranger, for the support, encouraging woops, etc.
I love that spot & the spontaneous since of community that erupts as soon as there are two or more people there.
Mucho shalomage, y'all.

That spot is a ton of fun met a shitload of people who were either leaving or coming in from the Bart.

I made a casual attempt at a SLAP version of a secret handshake in the form of the compliment I paid their fancy grip, but the gentlemen seemed a bit coy about it.
I don't care much to intrude in other peoples worlds, so I left it at that.
While driving home, it struck me that the grip job was not a casual thing, and somebody is either a PAL or just loooOOOoooves that logo enough to cut it (perfectly) into their grip three times, edge bleed style, rail to rail. Compliments4Griptape were in order.
Also, you don't wanna know your fellow PALS IRL too?

Id have probably done the same thing as you to be honest.  If someone doesn’t reciprocate my hearty “shalom”, I’m outta there, jack.

Kinda why I’m nervous to even post my setup here. I don’t care if people recognized my board and knew I posted on slap, but I get paranoid that someone might secretly see who just lurks and think I’m lame for posting here. Definitely me projecting.

I recognized GAY at El Sereno and had a little chat with him, very nice guy irl too. Threw a shalom as I left and we introduced ourselves with real names.
Hi GAY! Maybe I’ll see you there again one Sunday a.m.

Dear Lou,

If we crossed paths, I would give you a fist bump. And not one of those lame ones where you hold out like a punch position. Be a cool fist bump where you rotate your wrist so thumb facing up.  Then nod in respect as we skate our separate ways

Given how socially awkward we (presumably) all are, you have to be more direct than make an esoteric reference.

If the same situation happens to you in the future do the following:

You: "Nice grip job."

Him/her: "Hehe, thanks."

You (Full volume): "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?" *glaring*

I think in 99.9% of instances that would be true, but how great would it be if you met GAY! in real life and you both had to say the same intro?

"Hi, Straight, I'm GAY!"

"Hi, GAY!, I'm Straight!"

For some reason I hear that conversation in Terrance and Phillip voices.

If you want to engage with a PAL in public, you simply say, "The sun is shining," and if they are a PAL they will respond, "But the ice is slippery."

I'm more into watching two other Pals meet, but from a distance.
After the initial fist bump and "shalom" with a bit of a giggle, I really enjoy watching two online Pals have a rad sesh as I quietly "WOO!" and "Yuuuup!" from the bushes.

I know one poster who lives somewhat close to where I do, but they aren't a PAL so they're lucky I don't spit in their fucking face when I see them around.

They should be dragged into then street and shot.

Also, perhaps toss out “I just got of the bus” and watch their bodily language like you’re conducting a police interrogation.

Did any of you guys ever notice that if you took off the end "er" from his name, moved the "b" to after the "i" and then added an "l" to the "b" that you just moved, you'd spell "Bible"?

A couple of days ago I was in a McDonald’s drive-thru with eurotm and I un-ironically ordered a double cheese burger. He giggled and it took me a second to understand why.

He ordered a nugget meal.
