Everything B L A N K s thread
« on: November 17, 2020, 06:48:57 AM »
(tried to search it but couldn't find any thread like this so... here goes:)

Quality blanks, which ones, where and when to get them?

Many of us skate blanks for all kinds of reasons - to save $$$, as a canvas for your own creative visuals but also (in my case) because of the appealing visuals of clean, untampered decks with mono colors or natural grain>>

Now, I am primarily looking for BBS (Bareback/Generator) and South Central decks. Who carries these as blanks and where are good places (online) to score them?

Canada Skate Shop carries BBS (at the moment sold out) and I found some on a random Philippine FB page (sic!) but are there others out there who stock BBS or South Central blank decks?

Any other good blank deck suggestions are welcome, both small and big producers - I know some like P.S Stix and Dwindle (DSM) too.

Sometimes online vendors empty their catalogue or sell off for cheap... If you stumble across any no-brainer deals, feel free to post links here..

Preferably boards with known makers of consistent quality. There are heaps of BS blanks out there; we don't want those..

I just started skating a Chapman I got. It’s nice so far. The wheelbase is bigger than what I’m use to so ollies feel good but flip tricks aren’t there but I def feel it pops better.  It sounds weird too but if it works out and I get used to dimensions I can get 2 for price of one and with a baby I need to save money.  Painted the bottom

SoCal skateshop blanks

I skated one of the SoCal Skateshop blanks marked with the Prime stamp. It was pretty decent for the first 3 weeks, I'd say! Then got a little soggy, but not unskateable.

I also skated two of the Canada Skateshop BBS blanks. They were great, and have a great selection of sizes when they are actually in stock. Ben Degross was implying recently that the wood is switching to Clutch though, so maybe they will restock soon?

These are great, can’t get enough of them.

I felt a little guilty skating blanks, but I really do prefer a nice colored wood grain with no graphics, so I’m kind of torn

The board shortage with covid might spill over into the blank market as well, so who knows what might be going on re getting more good quality blanks, on top of the fact that Generator / BBS are not that into having their names used on much other than pro brand product, so some shops who get their boards might not be that open about where they come from too.

The Woodshop thread has snippets of info here and there re blanks too, but it is a bit to sift through.

Noticed it is 18 months old, so it might've dried up. Price = 36,3 USD which is good. Anyway, here ya go:

A lot of shops carry them (e.g. in Canada more often than not shops have them), you can look up prime wood LA decks.

Does anyone know what the prime popsicle decks dimensions are, specifically looking for wheelbase on an 8.25"

If you guys are willing to put up with shitty Google Translate and an UI that is very non-english friendly, Taobao or Alibaba are your way to go. QC is questionable so I suggest buying 1-2 boards to test out before ordering 50, also shipping to US could be a pain so look up a forwarding service. You tell the company what product you want to buy and they do the ordering and forward to you for a fee. Price wise they cannot be beat, I've seen blank go for $10 USD a board with a MOQ of 100 boards which is a comparatively small order.

I mentioned in another thread that buying from China can be hit or miss. It's unlikely you will be able to source from a woodshop directly since your MOQ (100 boards) will be too small for them to entertain, so you will need to go through an agent or online seller. Hopefully you luck out and find a good supplier who uses a good woodshop. I know the woodshops have different tiers of boards, the best ones using all Canadian Maple plys and the lower tier ones using a combination of Canadian and Chinese Maple.

You may or may not realise that Ben Degros (with Canada Skate Shop) had a run of BBS boards first, which caused them issues because they listed all the Generator / BBS specs info so they were not going to get any more of those any time soon.  There is actually one 8.875 remaining, which no longer has the brand name but a simple reference, which is more than a little funny to read.

https://canadaskateshop.com/product/8-875-blank-skateboard-deck/

All the new run of boards are Clutch, but again, who knows if they will get more or in what quantities, with the shortages going on, but at least Clutch is not getting pissed at them for using their name and info.

I am not meaning to sound like a dick, just helping you understand.

Sorry if you already knew all this, but from your comment it seemed like you didn't.

Word out there is that they are a little better and more well established than other cheap, by the bulk boards of unknown Chinese origin. Never had them myself but a friend ordered 5 from TGM. According to him only one of those lasted more than a week, but he is heavy and skates hard.

I have seen some describe them online as useable with a relatively short life span.
 Personally, though, I'd stay away.

I have a moose board at some relative's houses. I wanted to just have something when there fool around on. I've only ridden it twice. the snap is hollow. You know more of a muffled "donk" sound instead of a crisp snap feel. You guys can tell the difference as soon as you pop an ollie that it's not right

I got 12 of them. Won a comp for a years supply of decks.

They have a lovely shape but the wood ain't up yo scratch.

Dunno who they use but it's brittle yet soggy feeling.

The ones I have anyway
