Skateboarding clothes and equipment becoming less accessible.
« on: November 23, 2020, 11:57:06 AM »
This year we saw a shortage of skateboarding gear thanks to covid-19 and with the release of Louis Vuitton's skate shoe, I was thinking about the future of the industry going into the '20s. I hypothesize that skateboarding and skateboarding culture will be totally invaded/swallowed by the fashion and streetwear industry. classic brands like Vans, Independent, and Baker will become rare finds as they are bought up by scalpers to be sold at hyper-inflated prices online. Parks and Plazas will be overrun and posers will reign supreme. It's an oldheads worst nightmare.

If it comes to that people will create smaller brands that make their profits on selling a lot instead of charging too much. You can't have skateboarding if there's only expensive shoes out there, cheap expendable shoes are a necessity.

People who want to wear shoes that look like turkeys are not skaters. Dunks can be fucking $5k a pair and it won’t effect skateboarding.

And much as brands like Dime, polar and palace are cool. You don’t have to buy it.

Now board prices rising to $60 for things like a baker or Dlx logo board, that’s a different story. That could keep kids from skating. But, I think board prices going up is finally upon us and won’t be changing.

As a brazilian I assure you board prices won't stop anyone from skating, it'll just be a bit harder.
