It took me a couple of minutes to realize that he was Guy Mariano, he looks more like Jerry Seinfield.

Funny I just watched his epicly laterd last night.

In it he said that after his 2 year crack binge, when he cleaned up and wanted to get back in the game. Thrasher approached him saying that whatever he wanted they would run, cover , interview etc. Even though his skating was still complete shit at the time.

So he obviously has massive influence there. Id say this cover means he has something coming out. Probably the nike part

Why the fuck didnít he get SOTY then after Pretty Sweet dropped? That part was testament to one of the most intense comebacks in skateboarding, ever. I know David Gonzales ticks some Thrasher boxes but still in a weirdly slick and contrived way. He did that sick ditch Kickflip but all things considered he was such an underwhelming pick that year.

Yeah the laser flips and body varials were a bit much, but I have faith that he can taste up his part a bit and still have some mind benders in there.

I much prefer aging pro low impact skating of the Reynolds variety to Rowleyís ditch obsession, so maybe Iím just triggered by this cover.

Skating a blank.

That could be a numbers board- I wouldn't put it past them to put out a blank as a graphic

Jake Phelps on The Bunt said Guy told him to his face years ago that they didn't need Thrasher, because of his Big Brother affiliation.  Plus David's Possesed To Skate part was fucked that year.

Yeah, fair enough. I just watched the part again, didn't remember how gnarly it was. Basically Milton Martinez kind of gnarly.

That's obviously not the reason he didn't get SOTY. That's just Phelps talking shit.

Guy didn't win SOTY because Ty didn't give any of Pretty Sweet to Thrasher.

Wasn't it alleged at the time it was partly due to the fact Crailtap wouldn't let Thrasher put up Guys part for free?

Either way, Suciu should have won that year, but everyone forgets about it. Cross Continental (and all his other footage) was way better than Figgy, Daveed and Guy.

I saw Ban This in 1989 so sometime this year I will be celebrating 30 years of Guy footage.

Hate to be the one to tell you but I think you may of already missed this milestone

I don't see a problem

[close]

Well, I am not counting his crack years of course.
[close]

Haha good call! 2021 30 year anniversary it is

I"ll 'crack' one open for you during the upcoming 30 year celebrations.

I have to admit though, I have never been good with Numbers. I prefer the company of a Girl (not that there's anything wrong with a Guy) to doing maths; calculus gives me a Thunder-ing headache and Spitfire down my spine, which can only be conquered by offering Diamond(s) and Grizzly fur to the Goddess of Skateboarding,  Her Holiness Nike SB.

This is maybe up there with the worst outfits in skateboard magazine cover history.

And just think, Nigel has had covers.

And all the Grecos.

Have a feeling Guy's sitting on solid part especially for someone in his mid 40s.

Are you looking at the right photo? Guy is wearing loose chinos and a golf/polo tee and LA cap, pretty standard, normal gear.

This will never happen, but if FA is getting Guy it would be the greatest thing if he could film a part and share it with Gino for his welcome.
