Unrelated to the topic but has anybody tried Gros Micheles? I remember my uncles telling me that the banana in the 70s were a LOT better than bananas today. I’m very curious of how they taste but they’re tough to find and you’d pay a hefty price for em.

Anyways here’s a useless trivial fact: the reason there’s so many Filipino nurses abroad is because the US lacked medics in WW2. So they put up schools in the Philippines and eventually mass produced nurses (and pre 2010s it was a trend to take up nursing because that’s what everyone did). Nurse graduates were having a tough time looking for work in the country and were struggling to make ends meet with the salary so they eventually moved oversees. The US even had a program to employ nurses from around the globe and most of the applicants were Filipino
