Tracks famously sampled but you prefer the OG
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:58:21 PM »
Title says it all. Inspired by a post in the Library Music thread from @GauchoAmigo. Please also name or link the track that samples it, for context.

I'll start.

Sampled by DJ Muggs(i assume?) for Cypress Hill - Illusions

This is my favourite version of this song, and it's been sampled pretty heavily.

... and here's my favourite use of the sample, pretty sure Rashad used those chords on a few other tracks too but i can't recall which rn

By a fucking landslide. The obvious being Eminem, and that shit sucks. The less obvious being streets is still watching by Jay Z, which is good but not as good as the original.
Well I have like 9 Andy Anderson dated flight decks.

yoooo yea this is a jam. Remember the first time i heard this and didn't know much about sampling, it blew my mind that Dre had just straight ripped the whole loop. I love when tracks build to a point then just completely switch to a different groove like this.

Love what Kool G Rap does on this track. I heard the Kool G Rap version 20 years before the Billie Joel version. I’m not choosing sides. I would rather this thread be a brain storming off the top of the dome, who sampled.

Love the streets is watching joint...

But there's also no denying that this slaps harder!

Both tracks are classics to me, but the original is just so damn good.

more steely dan and doom love. Gas drawls is a genius flip, gives me chills, but you gotta have the original to havethe remix yanno.

only doom could take the least melodic part of the song and make it just so fucking perfect RIP

Was going through the record collection today to find something to clean to. Threw this on for the first time in a while... "boy was it neat, yeah"

Of course this is still a jam but not 15 min of flame emojis

This one is a tie but deserves recognition.

The sampled:

I don't know if this counts as "famously sampled" but when i heard the original, it got me pretty jazzed. Both tracks are flames regardless

^^ Yup, great find.

Here's a sample that's also maybe not so famous, but been used heaps. I play the Alias track below a bunch and I've had a few people come up asking about it, thinking it's sampling Soho, not realising Soho and Alias are both sampling Wynton Marsalis

Fuck both the original and the song using the sample are too good, can't choose between em.

Although Kodak Black used it too and I easily prefer the original over that track.

love this thread

I may not strictly prefer this to 'ready or not' but it definitely stands on its own:

same vein, 'dear mama' is great but the original takes me the same kind of places w/out lyrics:

I love that geto boys song, Guacho
Sick to see the original

This is a cover not a sample but to me anyway its a heavy one. I mean really good when I say that
It’s certainly not heavy metal

Edit
I fucked up I meant like the opposite of this thread I like the cover more
My bad
