a big reason is the CCD sensor. modern CMOS sensors not only have a different look but also most of the time have a jello effect (rolling shutter). CCD sensors were used in the VX1000 and the P2 cameras so they are in the same ball park if a 'look' is concerned. newer global shutter cmos sensors are coming out but there still isn't one in a quick to use camcorder package. if you want that clean 'filmic' 4K look, new cameras are where its at, but if you want the 'video' look and a fisheye that gets the most of of a 16:9 image, the P2 cams are the way to go.
