Set-up question
« on: April 07, 2007, 02:24:43 PM »
My current cruiser set-up:

8.5 The Firm deck
some hand-me-down Indies that used to live under a 7.75 deck
80 mm Kryptonics Hawaii K wheels, 78a softness
Risers

Now I love my wheels, they're getting me over almost any surface with the greatest of ease. The only problem is that with a sharp turn I get massive wheelbite and I launch myself like a human missile to the pavement. I've learned to live with it, but it messes with me every time I'm on my board, I can't use it to it's full potential. It's not like I can't turn, but I can't really slalom or bomb a hill since I'm scared as fuck I lean forward/backward too much and kiss the asphalt, hard and unnecessary.

I was thinking of getting smaller wheels, but it's hard to find small, soft wheels. Someone told me that the size of my deck is the issue, that it's too big for my trucks and causes the wheelbite. So the main question here is, how I can improve my set-up? Will a smaller board help? (I've heard good things about the Krooked Zip Zingers, I believe they're 7.8, might throw one of those on it) Or do I have to go for smaller wheels or bigger trucks?

well, you could put something like this between your deck and trucks (you'd propably need longer bolts also)

Or just buy bigger and higher trucks. (7.75 trucks under 8.5 deck sounds kinda sketchy to me.)

pretty much every company makes smaller softer wheels now.
spitfire has the softers but they only go down to 90a
bones makes the softcores , those are 52,54,56 80a
autobahn has filmer wheels in 56 80a
hubba has marshmellows and hotwheels in 55,60 80a
i have the powell dragon 56mm 90a wheels for my cruiser, no risers. plus i can still pop ollies and mob around.

thats what i am riding on my filming board. they are so smooth and fast. even if you get smaller wheels that are that soft you might want to get risers because the friction of the wheelbite will throw you off if you aren't careful
