Recycling old wheels?
« on: February 18, 2021, 11:56:31 PM »
Wasn't sure whether to post this here or under shoes & gear so apologies if I fucked up.

Does anyone know anything about recycling (melting down) old skate wheels?
A friend of mine told me that old wheels can be melted down and made into skatelite.

Wheels can't be melted down for re-use of the urethane, they're grinded up and then the new urethane is made with the dust. I don't know about making Skatelite but I know Satori wheels used to use recycled wheels for some of the wheels they sold.

Op, you ok man? Being real here, you doin alright?

When I was younger I cut an old ricta air core in half and tried to make a bowl out of it. It tasted like plastic.

Clearly I didn’t know what I was doing because A.) I tried this and B.) I bought Rictas

i dont think modern high performance composite urethane can be recycled into new wheels. I remember watching how bones made their wheels and when shaping the wheels they just threw the scrap urethane away - hurts my soul.

i think the urethane/additives are chemically bonded together....

Satori did a thing a while back where they made cored wheels using old wheels as the core ;

Ahhhhh, to be young again. When the world was your oyster, the possibilities in life were endless, and absolutely anything could be fashioned into a bowl to smoke weed out of, with enough tinkering.
