8.25 deck on 8.75 trucks?
« on: March 02, 2021, 02:43:00 PM »
Whats up!

I’ve been riding on 8.5 decks (BBS wood) / 8.75 trucks (indys 159) for years.
I’d like to try a smaller deck and slightly smaller wheelbase (dlx 8.25 x 32 x 14.38) and was wondering how weird that could be.

Does anyone ride 8.25 decks on 8.75 trucks?
What’s your experiences?

Oh I ride transition 90% of time. Nothing crazy deep mostly miniramps and small bowls.

No personal experience but one of my homies who is really good rides 8.75s on a 8.25 and he swears by it. He’s a ledge and manny skater tho but if it works for him...

What if you found out most pros lied about their setups and actually ride 7.75 decks on 8.75 trucks? You might want to sit down for this one... everything you've ever known... is a lie.

I did it briefly last spring. I don't really skate transition, so can't give you many insights there. It was alright, but I just like narrower trucks more and switched to a set of Ace 44s after skating it for a week or so.

If you like your trucks, no need to switch.

I ride 159s on 8.5 as well. I think if you got an 8.25 with not a lot of taper you could probably get away with it but it’s definitely gonna hot rod regardless. That’s a whole half inch difference in truck to board width but it’s of course not an exact science. Knew a guy who was skating 169s on tinder hat he said was an 8.25 and he had no issues floating flip tricks on flat

You can always try it and see, but before 144s came out, most dudes who skated more transition had 149s on 8.25s and they worked a treat.

I have one setup right now in that size DLX deck 8.25 x 32 with 14.38 wb and I don't think I would want to go any wider on the trucks, but my usual ride is 8.38 on 149s with two or three washers on the inside of each, so it brings the wheels out more.

In setting up a board, you can leave out washers to not have the trucks seem so wide or if your wheels are skinny, you can get away with a lot narrower deck as the wheels don't sit past the deck line the way wider wheels would.

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Sounds awful to me as a board flipper/ledge skater mostly but if you’re just skating mostly transition you would probably be OK especially if you’re just experimenting with smaller decks and might go back up

Ok

Done it a few times. I mostly skate flatground (why have 8.75 trucks for flatground you might ask....well when you read the entire setup and truck setup threads sometimes you start getting weird(er)). Worked shockingly well for kickflips, and fliptricks that do not include a rotation. 360 flips were pretty harsh, I need all the help I can get.
Ben Degros has a video on this exact subject. If you are into that type of thing.

Ty’all. Helped a lot.
Im a “Indys 159 + conical fulls for life” guy. haha.
I may try this 8.25 deck after the 8.5 one I’m riding now.
And yeah Ben Degros is the best!
