14” wb
« on: March 04, 2021, 10:10:51 AM »
I like 14” wheelbases. Only like to skate Ventures on 14” wb, or less.
There has been some good talk about shorter boards, but it’s often mixed in with width. I was hoping for some recommendations/discussion on different size boards, with yet again, the 14” wb.
I hate the idea of starting a thread for my own little weird 14 fetish, but maybe there is others out there like me.
So far, my faves have been anything ps, Craig 14’s, and then the green eagle.

Ngl the primitive Giovanni vianna 8.25 with a 14" wb is so good. Love the shape.

Crailtap g052.

Maxallure 8.25s are 14" wb i believe.

Same boat for me. The april 14"wb decks work pretty well with Venture highs, but the dlx 14" or crail g028 need thunders or ace imo. Tail length seems to be the x factor for me

Pretty sure all the Spectrum decks are pennswood with a 14" WB. Same with all the Scumco logo boards on Pennswood. The FA/Hocky 8.18 is good too...longest tail on their shape.

I’ve been skating Primitive 8.1 14” and they’re great. But I just picked up a Girl g052 and I feel so at home on it. Everything just works. I wish Baker made an 8.1 or 8.25 with a 14” WB

Palace Lucian and Jamal decks are 8.25 14wb.
Habitat 8 and 8.1x31.5 shape 14wb.
WKND 8.25CT shape 14wb as well.

Mentioned already but FA 8.1 has been my favorite shape.

I recently set up a Girl G027 with Venture 5.6’s and am really enjoying that combo. Want to try the Primtive 8.25 but can’t get over the hideous graphics.

I only do 14" if I can help it. Bigger than that is horrible to me. I'll do a 13.88 if I'm feeling sassy, but 14" is the 1 !

Most of these are in the 7.75 realm, but all have 14s:

Krooked Ikons II 7.75
Alien OG Burst 7.75
Toy Machine Mad Eye 7.75
Magenta "Station" 7.75
Darkroom "the Terror" 7.75
Theories Rasputin V2 7.75
Darkroom "the Hook" 7.75
Krooked Arketype 7.75
Toy Machine Turtle Boy 7.75
Magenta Team Big Planet 7.875
Baker Logo 7.88

also a few Blind, Santa Cruz, Creature, Thank You boards

There's a bit of 8's out there, but that's not my area of expertise at all!

I'm curious about the Magenta and Darkroom (so I can pretend its an old AWS)

BBS wood, 8" board with 14" wheelbase that is squared off and feels full, is the perfect shape/board for me. Wish someone made 8" boards with 13.875" WB though, I feel like I'd really benefit from that short of a board.

It's an amazing shape (check out the Degros video of the p-rod board he's skating) and the only 14" WB I can skate...I can't tell you why but I can ride it with any truck and it feels fine; other boards with a 14" WB, just can't hang.

I usually order a few when they do their sales (sign up for txt alerts) and spray paint over the DBZ graphics :P

14" WB gang represent. It's been years since I rode Pennswood, back then they were thick and heavy (at least compared to DLX). Is that still the case?

yes these things dont break and have the best pop imo

currently on a scumco silver spoon and doing my best skating to date. 8.5/31.75/14wb. board should last me all the way to when they move back to pennswood bar an atrocious landing
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

I love 31.3” length. I’m short, 5’8”, short legs for my height as well.

That dlx shape was good, I feel like Julien’s graphics, and sometimes Drehobl’s (so like the 2 best dudes) were on that shape. I very rarely see it anymore. As a side note, dlx has been jamming, catching up on product, to keep us all skating, but the boards have been a little.....boring lately. Maybe it’s just me. Probably. Still the best tho.
Thanks for all the ideas.

Venture V-Lights / V-Hollows on a deck that is long (> 31.75") and has a short WB (14") is my go to combination, not great on DSM or Baker decks that are short (31.6").

I think that 14” wheelbase boards are only made for Ventures. I’m gonna stick with the utterly magical 14.25 on Indys formula for tha gods.

Pft... Venture Gang rise up!!

I've had great setups on Thunder Forged on short WB decks (14.125") with medium steep kicks. Definitely the a shorter adjustment period and more adaptable to different board dims on Thunder than Venture, but finding the perfect deck combination with Ventures is like finding an onion ring in your fries.

My thread has arrived... I LOVE 14" WB, skate it exclusively with Thunder lights and it works really well for me.

Some personal board recommends if you like mellow-ish shape and 8.1-8.25" , obviously all 14" WB-

Girl G027 8.25"
Girl G023 8.125"
WKND 8.25" CT shape
Hockey 8.18" (The 8.25" is 14.125" which is close enough)
Palace 8.25"
Primitive 8.125" and 8.25"
April 8.25"

Toy machine also have a few 14" WB decks in the 8.125-8.25" range but I haven't ridden one yet.

From DLX, there are a few actually.

Real Full SE 8.06 x 31.5 with 14.0 wb - currently on the Ishod Natas graphic

https://www.realskateboards.com/img/2021/rs-sp21-del1-02.jpg

7.75 x 31.25 with 14.0 wb - currently Krooked wild style flowers graphic, Real Oval Pearl Patterns and AH pricepoint eagle

https://krookedskateboarding.com/spring21/kr-sp20-d1-del1-13.jpg

7.81 x 31.3 with 14 wb - as mentioned standard AH green eagle

8.12 x 31.38 with 14wb - as mentioned the Real red classic oval, but from the last catalog and still in stock in many places, an AH (For Lovers Taylor)  or Krooked (Publick Drehobl) deck.

A shop called OCD in Australia has everything listed in search for lots of things including wheelbase, so at 14.0 there are lots to see, most between 7.75 and 8.1 but a few up to 8.25 and nothing over that, from that list at least:

https://www.ocdskateshop.com.au/collections/decks?pf_t_wheelbase=wheelbase%3A14.0

I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I am currently on dlx (AH - GT) 8.12/31.38/14. It's number 1 from the stack and the tail is quite steep for me, but i try to get used to it. ( for some tricks i need to ride tail as nose coz the pop angle is less and the flip tricks are easier). I ride with venture v-hollows 5.2 hi, first with 53 wheels, but now i put 50 mm and immediately felt better on that board. I am short guy 5.5-5.6 (169cm) and feel this combo is quite good for my legs. I guess thunders will work great for that shape, too. I would like to to shorten the width and may try the other dlx shape 8.06/31.5/14.
