Author Topic: How about a subforum for classic and important Slap threads? (Read 5233 times)

I talked with IDKFA earlier today, who had in turn talked with Twitch247 about the possibility of creating a new forum to house all of the big important threads that occur on a semi regular basis here (Jamie Thomas answering questions, the CEOs thread, the Shane and Harold tributes, etc etc).

It makes sense to me, as there have been a lot of requests for having certian threads pinned because of importance, yet some have requested that those same threads be unpinned because the main forum winds up with a shitload of sticky topics that you have to scroll past before you can get to the current and active conversations.

Anyway, Twitch pretty much stated that this can be done if there's an expressed interest... so if you have a yay or nay, hit it up. I think it'd be neat to have a library of our bigger threads... and as IDKFA said to me, "it would be insane not to highlight the amount of influence this place can have, and demonstrate why SLAP is the skateboard forum everyone talks about."

Should the consensus be for an addition to be made, it might also help if we have some standard way of guaging whether or not a thread should go into this section... like, I see the tribute threads as a given, but what about the others? Maybe some arbitrary number of pages that the thread gets to, or a certian number of Pals say "this should go to the classics...?"

i object to the word ""important" in the title of this topic. this is a message board and there is very little that is important on it.

that aside, keeping an archive wouldn't be a bad idea if you're into reminiscing about that sort of thing.

I dunno know man, I think there's some importance to some of the threads... nothing that will save the world, but some relative importance for sure. Definitely some highly informative and enjoyable reads that deserve some permanence.

like the word classic better than important for use in the sub forum title

I think if needed thread "velocity" would probably be a good metric to use to determine if a thread is a classic or not, but I think it will be pretty obvious most of the time so not necessary to develope a litmitus of tightness. Pretty much the threads that if you came to slap for the first time today, you would have "totally missed it".

might be better not to move the threads but instead create post in the new group that have a link to the thread with a quick description of what the thread was about. have the sub forum locked so only mods can create post and don't allow reply's.

I agree except that I could imagine there would be senerios where context would be important and that is why I suggested what I suggested above.

For example, 3 years from now a new user comes to slap and reads through the classic posts, would he know what "A world without Pros" is? maybe, maybe not. So having a post that refers to the actual post (which could be locked down) would provide the ability to give some context to the thread which would make it more accessible to a wider audience.

Looks like you guys have made a decision, I will leave the voting open till thurs, but it looks like you guys already have an obvious winner, so I will get the new board up, but now to decide how we will decide which threads will be moved there, and how what the criteria will be for future threads.
